AFI Album Update

2008-11-10 by NOTINTHEFACE | 39 Comments
AFI have finished writing their new album.

The band were quoted on Facebook: "We've officially finished writing the 8th AFI album, and now we enter the studio to put it on tape. We have a fabulous producer we'll be working with, David Bottrill, who has worked on some fantastic and legendary albums by Peter Gabriel, Muse, Silverchair, Placebo, and Tool. We've spent this whole year crafting these songs and we're impatient to share them, so let's get busy."

What a coincidence, I just started playing The Missing Frame before heading to this site. Best song on DU.

Why does everyone expect this to be bad? The band had ONE bad album (Decemberunderground), and I actually thought that it was pretty good.

In any case, they've apparently gotten rid of the electronics this time around, and their working with a great producer. Im excited.

hope Davey's vocals are better this time round. Kill Caustic might have been one of the worst songs I've ever heard.

I think it's obvious this album will chew balls. I would love to be pleasantly surprised however, as AFI are more than capable of writing some fantastically memorable tunes, but they've really taken their foot off the pedal in the past few years.... Shame....

Oh and for the record, Sing the Sorrow was pretty poor too. This Message Edited On 11.11.08

The electronics weren't the bad thing about Decemberunderground...it was more the poor songwriting...
I hope this is better but I'm not getting my hopes up just yet...

Decemberunderground sucked. End of story.
This better be at least 50x better or AFI will officially suck huge amounts of ass.

Honestly, I didn't enjoy Sing the Sorrow all that much. I liked their older sound prior to it, but Sing the Sorrow still had some cool songs...December was completely terrible..

I expect a hybrid between the two. More or less, crap.

Sing The Sorrow is AFI's masterpiece, no contest. DU was kinda good, in retrospect it has some solid songs but overall is lacking I agree. I really would love for this to rule.

problem with Decemberunderground was that they separated the pop and the hardcore aspects, and both kinda suffered.

I would really like for this to be awesome. Ive only heard Sing the Sorrow and December, but still. Please make a good album, guys...

Admittedly, decemberunderground is not my favorite AFI album. Still, I would hardly say it sucked so I am very excited for this.
