Fall Out Boy Fight Censorship

2008-09-25 by Dave de Sylvia EMERITUS | 27 Comments
The video for Fall Out Boy's 'I Don't Care' debuted today in the iTunes store (didn't they use to make music videos for promotional purposes?), complete with cameos from the likes of Mark Hoppus, Spencer Pratt and Gabe Saporta.

However, the plot thickens. It turns out the video released to iTunes is not the version that the band themselves approved. Pete Wentz, in a blog, alleges that the label recut the video to include footage of the band viewed through a camera phone- a camera phone that just happens to prominently display the manufacturer Nokia!

imagine seeing this edit only after you buy the video off of i-tunes and realizing that noone even had the balls to call you and tell you they were changing the video and cutting parts.

id recommend viewing the video on a site that it doesnt cost you any money as this is NOT the edit the band approved.

sorry to let you down.
Naturally, the blog was taken down, and UMG have made pains to ensure all Youtube, Dailymotion, etc. postings have been taken down. Shortly afterwards, Wentz posted a new blog, with the following image:

Maybe if Pete Wentz could word things where people could understand stuff and use correct grammar I would understand that...

Even when Fall Out Boy shows integrity people lash out at them for it. Benzum, your comment was completely unnecessary.

COMPLETELY agree. Just because the band sucks doesn't mean there isn't a point. It's bull.

I'm sorry, I didn't catch that.

In all seriousness, that's really stupid that record companies pull that kind of crap. It's absolutely retarded, actually. But I still hate pete wentz, even though he's right this time.

This isn't integrity, this is damage control to silence or muffle the "Sell Out" cries.

To HaD, no it isn't, it was not their choice to use the product placement, it was the record companies.
I'm another Fallout Boy hater, but in this case, i agree, they grew some nuts.

I'm glad Pete Wentz is refusing to bend over and take the hard shaft of censorship. I'm glad.
