Avenged Sevenfold Cancel Reading

2008-08-24 by Dave de Sylvia EMERITUS | 27 Comments
Avenged Sevenfold cancelled their performance at the Reading Festival today on doctor's orders.

The band released a brief statement explaining the decision: "We're very sorry to tell you that Avenged Sevenfold will not be performing at Reading today, August 24. As many of you know, the band had to shorten their set at Leeds Friday due to vocal strain. Since then, Matt's doctors in the United Kingdom and Los Angeles have both advised him that he must rest his voice and cannot perform. Thankfully there are no long-term problems and with proper rest, Matt will return to the road shortly.

"The band toured all summer with Iron Maiden throughout Europe and the UK. They returned home August 1, but because they wanted to play Reading and Leeds very much, they returned this week for the festival. They were blown away by the number of fans who came to see them play at Leeds. The band is still in England now and is extremely disappointed that they can't play a show they have been looking forward to for a long time.

"A7X will return to the United Kingdom at the beginning of 2009.

"Matt will post a personal message shortly but we wanted to get you the news immediately."

M. Shadows (a.k.a. Matt) has had similar problems with his vocal chords in the recent past, dropping screamed vocals almost completely from his repertoire following the 2003 album Waking The Fallen.

Ok let me get this straight. He had problems with his vocal chords before stopping him from screaming. Does this mean that the new problem will stop him from singing?

One can only hope...Well actually if he stopped taking lessons from Axl Rose's vocal coach he wouldn't be so bad...

Waking The Fallen wasn't released in 2005, did you mean City of Evil?

What does he do live now, for his older material? Does he try to scream, or what?

his normal way, or does he attempts (and fails) to sing it like he did before?

either way it's probably really painful.

Kinda harsh, I think his vocal style is pretty unique, although he totally failed with the piano ballad Warmness on The Soul.

Lol at everyone's hate for this band. I remember when everyone was calling them the future of Metal when City Of Evil was released.

Dropkick Murphys' singer commented on this by saying "I've been singing with a fucking vocal strain for 20 years" during their set. And got a massive roar from the crowd.

They should do the show. Anything that could potentially endanger a7x's future as a band is good in my book.

In their defense, they've been touring quite heavily since last october, so i can only imagine how worn out his voice is by now.
