COF Announce Album Title 2008-07-29 by BallsToTheWall | 37 Comments |
England's most notorious and nefarious metal band are gearing up to release their darkest, most dastardly album of all, titled Godspeed on the Devil's Thunder, for Roadrunner Records on October 28. The album, which will have a special edition with an extra disc and bonus material, arrives just in time for Halloween, a holiday that fits Cradle of Filth's blackened, ghostly aesthetic.
The album is conceptual and is based on the well-documented, true-life fall from grace of a shadowy historical figure named Gilles de Rais, a wealthy French nobleman who was one of Joan of Arc's brothers-in-arms. He was best known, however, as a prolific serial killer who mixed prayers with his nightly murders as well as an aspiring alchemist. He was accused of a panoply of crimes, among them heresy, demonology and kidnapping. There's even an extreme fringe sect of historians who question de Rais' true status, with some convinced he was framed.
Regardless of viewpoint, leave it to Cradle of Filth to dissect de Rais' biography, exploring subversive, inflammatory historical subject matter in its lyrics, taking an unjaundiced look at a controversial figure in European history, set to epic black metal music. The band profiled Hungarian countess Elizabeth Bathory, who attempted to preserve her youth by bathing in the blood of virgins, in the past and now moves forward by framing their latest album around the story of de Rais.
Cradle of Filth's vocalist Dani Filth elaborated on the album's concept, saying, "By far this is our most extreme, dramatic and deeply disturbing album to date. The legend of Gilles de Rais has been given fresh, vampyrical life in this conceptual meisterwerk, swathed in pitch-black magic and a viciousness unsurpassed in the annals of Cradle history. Screw what our detractors say, everyone who has heard this album has bruised their jaws on the pentagram-bejewelled floor."
The tracklisting for Godspeed on the Devil's Thunder is as follows:
"In Grandeur And Frankincense Devilment Stirs"
"Shat Out Of Hell"
"The Death Of Love"
"The 13th Caesar"
"Tiffauges"
"Tragic Kingdom"
"Sweetest Maleficia"
"Honey And Sulphur"
"Midnight Shadows Crawl To Darken Counsel With Life"
"Darkness Incarnate"
"Ten Leagues Beneath Contempt"
"Godspeed On The Devil's Thunder"
"Corpseflower"
Cradle of Filth follows up 2006's Thornography with a bigger, faster and louder conceptual new album. The band retains their hard-earned reputation as the best of the blackest with Godspeed on the Devil's Thunder.

Well i'm not going to deny that the concept is really cool however else I feel about the band . The Messenger was an awesome movie, Mila ftw. Last two albums were pretty medicore save a few songs but still sounds worth a peek.

Too bad the COF are going to take a decent concept and shred it to fucking pieces in some shitty gothic/black metal car accident.
The band retains their hard-earned reputation as the best of the blackest with Godspeed on the Devil's Thunder.

"Shat Out Of Hell" They can't be serious
|

"Shat Out Of Hell"
!!! that is hilarious.
Still
Dragonforce>COF>Trivium in terms of song titles for new album.
|
| |
This genre is dead............
|
| |
This shit is going to rule. I dont care what anyone says. I am a little biased towards COF because they're my favorite band lol. And I agree SCREAM, Shat Out of Hell is a horrible title. Luckily the other titles are pretty awesome.
|
| |
Luckily the other titles are pretty awesome.
Not really. "Tragic Kingdom" was so 1995 with No Doubt.
|
| |
yeah a couple of them are awesome, most of them, not so much
|
| |
Im sorry Hawks but...
"In Grandeur And Frankincense Devilment Stirs"
"The Death Of Love"
"Sweetest Maleficia"
"Honey And Sulphur"
"Godspeed On The Devil's Thunder"
Are all pretty bad
and of course Shat Out Of Hell takes the cake.
The other ones aren't great either...just decent..

Glad to see we're gonna judge an album on song titles. Jk, but I don't know if I should be excited for this or disown it. They haven't really put anything worthwile out this decade.
|
| |
ummm well good thing they didnt mix it up by doing something not creepy & uplifting... wait...
|
| |
We're not judging it on song title but on the fact that they havent put out anything good in...I dont even knwo how long anymore..
The song titles only make things worse though
|
| |
Thats where I have to disagree with you guys. I think all their stuff is good so this will probably be no different. COF was the band that got me into metal so I have a soft spot for them lol.
|
| |
I've always liked this band. I'm hoping this will be better than Thornography.
|
| |
They were pretty good, Nymphetamine was sweet. This sounds interesting. The main problem with Thornography was that it was more Industrialised, and the production sucked so bad.
|
| |
This genre is dead............
Gothic metal?
|
| |
There was nothing wrong with the production on Thornography.
|
| |
shat out of hell
....

I'm still really pumped for this, even if there is a song called Shat Out Of Hell.
|
| |
one of the worst bands to ever graze my ears

Your WITTR thing was deleted because it was an advertisement not news.
|

The concept is ridiculous and very boring to say the least.
|
| |
this band (genre) is fucking terrible. and how dani talks. "Screw what our detractors say, everyone who has heard this album has bruised their jaws on the pentagram-bejewelled floor." damn that is so just so gothic and deep. stupid fuck. This Message Edited On 07.30.08

^^ What genre exactly? I sure as hell know that black metal is going pretty strong right now. Gothic metal is a different story that has been declining since the turn of the century. With all former bands breaking up or losing key members.
|
| |
both.
|
| |
I see where he's coming from.
I can't stand how contrived so much of this stuff is. It pains me to see that they take themselves so seriously, especially when it comes to demonic imagery and pentagrams. I mean seriously. It's laughable.
|
| |
I'm not suprised you'd say something so false considering what your pie chart conists of, ataraxia. There are far worse bands to take this bit too seriously but the concept is cool I want to see how they play it out. See Watain, Horna, etc. On another note there really is a lot of good black metal being produced this decade but is overshadowed by a bunch of shit.

Ive listened to that crappy music before. My roomate at college used to blast COF (and music like it) constantly and it made me punch babies. And I agree with taylormemer. and id like to think i have a semi-varied taste in music. This Message Edited On 07.30.08

I don't know about being shat out of hell but I about shat my pants when reading this. I love this band quite dearly (although I like their older sound more than their newer one). Can't wait and I also read in an article somewhere that the new drummer is supposed to be ridiculous and he was one of the motivating forces in making this album. This is good news methinks because Adrian was pretty mediocre when he wasn't playing Nick Barker's awesome drum parts. Hopefully this'll be better than Thornography.
|
| |
This will be better than Thornography. And yes Marthus is supposed to be the fastest drummer that they've ever had. Its nice to see that someone loves the band as much as I do lol.
|
| |
you're all faggots, including me
|
| |
both.
Why because you don't listen to them? Goddamn what a close-minded dumbass you are.
|
| |
while I was reading this article, I thought it was Balls putting up his best Hawks impression.
|
| |
the best record they have ever made was "Dusk...and Her Embrace". Every BM fan knows this..they should of stopped there!
