Lil Wayne shifts a million

It's not like his ego needs the boost, but Lil Wayne will no doubt be pleased as punch to learn that Tha Carter III has sold over 1,000,000 copies in its first week, in spite of/mostly because of that grotesque/wonderful artwork. To put this achievement in perspective, it means that Wayne has beaten Kanye's Graduation over the same time period, has almost outsold both his previous albums already, and has quite easily achieved the fastest selling album of 2008 so far. The last album to do 1,000,000 in a week was 50 Cent's The Massacre in 2005.

An interesting subplot here is the fact that Universal Motown were bracing themselves for poor sales after the album leaked early and was so heavily bootlegged; proving again for those of us with brains that allowing people to hear music is a good thing.

Wayne is now expected to repeat this success in Europe, where nobody has heard of him.

I have a 3 foot poster of The Carter III magnetized to my fridge door. Probably won't listen to it though.

It saddens me that the two fastest sellings albums of the past three years have been 50 Cent and Lil' Wayne.
