Cynic Finalizing New Album Mix

2008-06-17 by combustion07 | 14 Comments
Reunited progressive metallers CYNIC — whose 1993 album "Focus" is regarded as a landmark release in the field of technical/progressive metal — recently entered a California studio with producer Warren Riker (DOWN, SANTANA) to begin recording their new album for a late 2008 release via Season of Mist Records.
Commented drummer Sean Reinert: "We are currently finishing up mixing the last two songs for the new CYNIC album with Warren Riker and could not be happier. It is really sounding amazing. I'm loving my drum sound! Paul's [Masvidal, guitar/vocals] guitar tones are really killer. [Sean] Malone [bass] came down from Missouri for four days and tracked some great bass and stick lines. Tymon [Kruidenier, guitar/vocals] arrived [from Holland] last weekend and is now part of the fold. His growls and guitars are sounding sick!! We've been in a Glendale studio for almost 4 1/2 weeks now and yet I feel like we've been here a year! After we finish tomorrow night we will sit and live with the songs for a week before proceeding on to mastering. Right after that we start our rehearsals for the summer European mini-tour so keep a lookout for dates."
CYNIC's new album will contain eight songs, and the band is working once again with renowned artist Robert Venosa (who created the unmistakeable cover and visuals for "Focus").
CYNIC founding members Paul Masvidal (guitar, vocals) and Sean Reinert (drums), who both gained reputation and praise while performing alongside Chuck Schuldiner and DEATH in the recording and touring lineup for the milestone album "Human", recently spent time at Audiohammer Studios in Sanford, Florida working on the mix for three new demo tracks with producer Jason Suecof (TRIVIUM, CHIMAIRA, THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, DEVILDRIVER, etc.). The three new songs — "Integral Birth" (which can be heard on the band's MySpace page), "Evolutionary Sleeper" and "Adam's Murmur" — led to the return of "Focus" bassist Sean Malone, who had heard the demo material and was excited by it. Although Sean had been busy as a teacher in another state, he renewed his ties with Masvidal and Reinert and it was decided that Malone would join them both for the recording of the second album, as well as live shows whenever possible. Rounding out the group's current lineup is Tymon Kruidenier, a talented guitarist out of the Netherlands who will also handle the aggressive vocals.

Cause it is basically unreadable, that's why. Half of the article sits in the "Further News" list to the right... I'll fix that

This is my most anticipated release in a long time, especially now that I know that the growls are returning which means it shouldn't end up sounding like the Portal demo.

I've only heard a couple songs by these guys, but they were really cool. I still need to get Focus. Also Sean Reinert was really good on Human. If the new stuff is like what I have heard so far, then it will be a hyper beast mode album to be sure.

I seriously hope the album doesn't turn out like the 2 tracks that aren't Evolutionary Sleeper that were released. Those were fairly lame. The return of Malone should do wonders, though, and I can't wait for these dudes to go on tour.

thought the music on Focus was great, but those "robot" vocals killed that album for me. if there not on the new one, i might check into this.
