Burzum Anthology Due In May

2008-04-12 by Dave de Sylvia EMERITUS | 11 Comments
One-man black metal institution Burzum- currently on 21-year hiatus- will release his first "best of" compilation next month.

Anthology, due May 13 on Candlelight Records, will gather together material from Burzum's (real name Varg Vikernes) six albums and various EP releases, few of which are commercially available in the US.

Interestingly, the release is set to coincide (roughly) with Vikernes' parole hearing next month. Hmm.

"Anthology is a special first-time collection of material that spans the musician’s ten-plus year recording legacy; most unfortunately still unavailable for US fans (other than pricey imports). Featuring selections from each of his six albums (and including one from his popular EP Aske), Anthology is anticipated to be a highly sought-after recording for long-time fans and those curious newcomers who up-til-now only knew of the name and not had opportunity to bear witness to the musician’s blackened fruit.

This should rule. Even though Varg is an asshole and a racist, his music still rules.

i've heard odd bits of burzum stuff, but i can't get past the ridiculously low-fi tr00 grym-as-fuck black metal production values. if this is heavily remastered though, there's a chance i might buy it out of sheer curiosity...

Nice, but I'm willing to pay the high cost to import each single CD. I'm not a fan of "best-of" collections or stuff like this. I'll probably still get it though.

Best of compilations are not tr00

Actually, I really do think best of compilations are stupid, though.

I think a Burzum best of would be horrible, especially if they have a track from Filosofem on there. The difference in production on the songs would annoy the hell out of me.

I agree. They do bands no justice. Maybe if you getting into a band and you want to do it cheaply. Other than that, albums are meant to be enjoyed as a whole, metal is not pop music hahaha!

this might be pretty good, and if the tracks are "somewhat" remastered it would be intresting. I enjoy whole albums more, but if this is my chance to get burzum at best buy ill check it out.

This has been available in Aus for about a month now. And the cd is annoying like everyone is saying - there is no flow to the cd, etc
