My Dying Bride in the Studio 2008-04-04 by Trey STAFF | 23 Comments | My Dying Bride have entered the studio to start recording for their next album. Pre-production started March 18th and they've since gone into full studio mode at Futureworks in Manchester, with Mags once again at the wheel.
According to Andrew, there are no song or album titles yet, but the feel of the album is, in his words "heading for empty and bleak with flashes of rage".

A new MDB album is always something to look forward to.

I have no idea if these guys are considered doom, but I really enjoyed their last album. I think I should check out some of their older stuff. They're considered one of the forerunners of doom ;) I think you should check out their older stuff too, starting with "Turn Lose the Swans", and completely avoiding forever their "33.27235% Complete" album...
| | | I'm excited for this.

Hahaha Doom gets thrown around here alot (except by rasputin who seems to take a great interest in the genre) and I've seen some nasty arguments arise from it.
| | | cant wait for this, i've been digging on a line of deathless kings since it came out, i dont think i'll ever get tired of that album
| | | Forerunners are doom aren't MDB. Awsome news tho
| | | More like Death-Doom.

More like Death-Doom.
You totally fail at knowing anything about doom. First, in terms of popularity (which is very relevant to being a 'forerunner', My Dying Bride are leading the pack, alongside Katatonia. You won't find any other really decent doom in regular record stores. Being a forerunner doesn't mean the best of the genre, just what is appealing to the most amount of people (I hardly think MDB are the best the genre has to offer.
Secondly, totally failed again. MDB were death/doom to begin with, over 15 years ago, but since have not been at all. They aren't death/doom anymore.
I'm looking forward to this, Line of Deathless Kings was a solid effort from a consistent band, so I think this next one will be decent.

Also, I don't see how 'empty and bleak with flashes of rage' are any different from what My Dying Bride have been doing for the last decade and a half :D

| | | On a side note, I know Katatonia aren't really 'doom' anymore, but it's what most people know them as.
| | | ^ i long for your knowledge of doom...
| | | rasputin, I meant forerunner as founders. I was thinking Willie was saying MDB was a founder, and thats where my comments were going. Sorry for my stupidity, then...
| | | MDB are awesome.

rasputin, I meant forerunner as founders. I was thinking Willie was saying MDB was a founder, and thats where my comments were going. No, I meant basically what Rasputin was saying (we've discussed doom before)... I honestly have no idea who the founders of doom would be.
| | | rasputin owns the doom sub-genre around here. End of story!

Don't worry about it, I make mistakes about stuff like this all the time. Just for future reference, it's almost impossible to really pin down a single band as the founder of any genre. It's a bit easier for doom; one could say Black Sabbath was the founder of the genre, but then plenty of other bands evolved it into what it is today. But yeah, it's all good.
| | | People talked about Candelmass being the founders of Doom...
| | | Like I said, you can't pin down a single band as a specific founder, and Black Sabbath were before Candlemass anyway. There isn't denying that early Black Sabbath (such as Black Sabbath, Paranoid etc.) are doom.

| | | i want a game where band names pop up and you guess the genre. i think it'd be too easy

Yeah, I doubt it was really considered doom or for a while after, more so just 'heavy metal', but looking back now, they're widely considered doom. Not all their albums, like I said, but a few of the early ones. I think that if we had to, a 'founder' status would most appropriately be put on Sabbath, whereas bands like Candlemass, Solitude Aeturnus or Cathedral evolved the sound into a distinguishable sub-genre.
