Madonna The Con Artist? 2008-01-12 by Dave de Sylvia EMERITUS | 13 Comments | A spokeswoman for an angry Madonna has hit back at accusations that her Raising Malawi charity is actually a fundraising front for the Los Angeles Kabbalah Centre.
A Fox News expose claims that an event due to be held on February 6 in New York in conjunction with the Gucci fashion company is in fact a ruse to raise money for Madonna's preferred Kabbalah outlet. The event was expected to raise up to $2 million for the poverty-relief charity co-founded by Madonna in 2006, but all that is in doubt in light of these accusations.
A spokesperson for Madonna, Liz Rosenberg, called the claims “outrageous, they are incorrect, inaccurate, hurtful and malicious." She added: “The reality is — and it's never been a secret — that the Raising Malawi organisation was co-founded by Madonna and Michael Berg, who is one of the spearheading executives of the Kabbalah organization. The Raising Malawi organisation is completely separate from the Kabbalah, and they are run as two separate organizations."
