R.E.M. Announce Release Date

2007-12-18 by Dave de Sylvia EMERITUS | 6 Comments
Singer Michael Stipe has apparently announced April 1 as the release date for the new, as yet unnamed, R.E.M. album.

At a New York charity auction, Stipe had the following words: "Let me tell you a secret: we have a great fucking record in the bag. It's a big change. It's coming out on April Fool's Day."

It's not entirely clear whether Stipe was merely being an asshole, as Stipe tends to be, or whether he was genuinely revealing the release which, this being the group's fourteenth studio release, is also something he's famous for doing.

it's probably going to suck like all their other new albums, and that makes us the april fools for buying it.
just get their best-of and leave it at that.

No way, man, all the post-Berry records really haven't been half as bad as people have said they are.

I thought there last one...Away From The Sun or whatever had a few good songs I liked Leaving New York.

Away From The Sun and Reveal weren't very good, but Up is a lot better than people seem to give it credit for. If you just get the best of, you're really selling yourself short, especially considering how good New Adventures In Hi-Fi is.

And yeah, Stipe can be a self-righteous asshole sometimes. Kinda frustrating for a fan...oh well...
