Well thats the end of funeral. please don't release any new music, you'll go the way of Atreyu if you do.
|
| |
yeah I can't see FFAF without Matthew
|
| |
Damn, yeah can’t imagine the band without him. Welcome home Armageddon was amazing so would love to see them release something with the original lineup. Anyways, thanks for the amazing music over the years!
|
| |
I remember in 2007, one of my mates posted on their myspace wall how hard tales sucked, to which Matt replied, 'I don't see you playing in a rock band'
|
| |
'I don't see you playing in a rock band'
Fuck ye Matt lol
|
| |
if gavin takes over im on board but yeah matt was a lot of their appeal for me. dont blame him at all but cant say im terribly stoked for new stuff without him
|
| |
tales was dope
didn't even realize they were still together since their couple of reunion shows, thought they were just one-offs
|
| |
I'd be game if they continued in the more Hardcore influenced vein of their last few albums, but as I feel Matt was the one pushing for that sound and that they haven’t really touched anything post Tales since reuniting, I feel that’s unlikely sadly.
New stuff will probably be Casually Dressed/Hours nostalgia and if I wanted to listen to that, I’d just put Casually Dressed and Hours on again.
|
| |
Love this band but they haven't released anything interesting since Armageddon so I can understand Matt wanting to move on to greener pastures
They could never come close to Casually Dressed or Hours ever again anyways so it's best to call it a day
|
| |
everything theyve ever done tops hours lol
a new record picking off from where they left off woulda ripped. last two albums were smth special
|
| |
Bad take
|
| |
maybe if you dont like your bands growing up and finding their own voice outside of stock scene tropes but that album is faceless outside of like four songs
|
| |
all their stuff rules except c&v
|
| |
band has always been consistently good and actually grew and changed for the better.
|
| |
I’d say Tales and M&H are their weakest albums. They’re not terrible, but they just seem to lack a bite.
|
| |
m&h's softer songs are def really bad yeah
|
| |
“didn't even realize they were still together” [2]
|
| |
“everything theyve ever done tops hours”
Lol
|

Archers in your arches
Raise your fingers for the last salute
And bleed this skyline dry
Your history is mine

bring back the drummer and have no cleans. the only way forward
|
| |
I no longer believe in bands breaking up or members leaving.
I already saddened when they disbanded in 2016. Do what you want and if you come back, I'll be there. It's the only thing I can do as a fan.
They had an EP a long time ago I cannot recall anymore that had a song in it called THE ART OF AMERICAN FOOTBALL, that was one of my favourite songs that year. my earliest memories of them.
|
| |
“bring back the drummer and have no cleans. the only way forward“
That drummer (Ryan) rejoined the band for their reunion shows in 2019 and he’s been with them ever since.
|
| |
Had high hopes for one more album with Matt after they reunited. Honourable thing to do would be to retire the band
|
| |
That drummer (Ryan) rejoined the band for their reunion shows in 2019 and he’s been with them ever since
make him the frontman and just go full metalcore.
|
| |
Article is way too long for a band I didn’t even realise still existed post-2010
|
| |
No more albums please
|
| |
"make him the frontman and just go full metalcore."
no fucking way. Screamoooooo revival
|
| |
no fucking way. Screamoooooo revival
EVEN BETTER
|
| |
full album of the Your History is Mine songs or bust
|
| |
“Article is way too long for a band I didn’t even realise still existed post-2010”
I’ll tell the band to write a significantly shorter statement next time.
|
| |
This is bittersweet for me. Matt is a legendary post-hardcore vocalist, and it's hard to imagine the band without him. His lyrics and melodies were such a big part of the band's identity and sound.
On the other hand, his voice had completely gone. I dunno if anyone saw the footage of them performing at Hurricane Fest in Germany recently (check YouTube) but it was a tough watch. The remaining members are all phenomenal musicians, and I think they're self-aware enough to not just try and ape the Casually Dressed sound in 2023. They've been constantly evolving since then, so I really doubt they'd just go full nostalgia bait.
Definitely looking forward to hearing whatever they put out. Also, Lucas from Holding Absence is an insane vocalist and a great fit for Funeral. Got me considering buying a Slam Dunk ticket now. I think there's basically 0% chance that they convince him to leave Holding Absence long term, as that seems like a band that's going places, but I wouldn't be mad if they somehow did.

| |
"They had an EP a long time ago I cannot recall anymore that had a song in it called THE ART OF AMERICAN FOOTBALL, that was one of my favourite songs that year. my earliest memories of them."
That release was Seven Ways to Scream Your Name (or Between Order and Model if you're super OG) and it's my favorite release of theirs. I listened to the fuck out of that EP for years in middle and high school.
Really sad to see Matt leave because that feels like the end of an era for me. I can't imagine FFAF without his vocals.
|
| |
I saw them on what I thought was the last concert for their then already deceased friend but after that they just kept touring lol so the shocking part of that announcement isn‘t Matt leaving but the fact they want to continue and write new stuff. Very skeptical about that to be honest. Although Woodland is a fantastic vocalist so we‘ll see. Maybe another band name would have been more fitting, dunno.
|
| |
That voice IS Funeral For A Friend.
|
| |
“On the other hand, his voice had completely gone. I dunno if anyone saw the footage of them performing at Hurricane Fest in Germany recently (check YouTube) but it was a tough watch.“
It’s like he was sick with a cold or something. I hope that was the case and not his vocals being shot.
|
| |
"It’s like he was sick with a cold or something. I hope that was the case and not his vocals being shot.
"
Nah. His vocals had been on a downward spiral for a long time. This wasn't a one-off occurrence, just the worst example in recent times. Ever since he switched to the more aggressive style in Conduit, his voice just became shot.
There's a video of them doing 1% live in studio and his voice is pretty rough there, but yeah, just watch any live show from the last couple of years and it's not great.
|
| |
Upcoming New Year's wishes, those emo legends will never leave and we'll be young forever
|
| |
“It’s like he was sick with a cold or something. I hope that was the case and not his vocals being shot.”
I have seen them live a few times and he’s always been great at those shows (most recently the London date of the Casually Dressed show which ended up being his last show).
|
| |
They won't release new music so who cares.
|
| |
They’ve said they are, but we'll see if something actually comes of that.
I’ve also been reminded that there was one show around 2004 where Matt couldn't play due to an abscess. As a result, Adam Lazzara from Taking Back Sunday (who they were touring with at the time) filled on lead vocals.
|
| |
dang, end of an era
|
| |
Wow. Matt leaves FFAF and Stephen goes on indefinite hiatus from touring with Anberlin. Wow, what an end of an era. Those two bands were huge to me in high school and college and really ever since. Lucas sounds like a perfect replacement. I'm looking forward to hearing footage of FFAF with him singing.
|
| |
I thought about Anberlin too. Both such huge bands in my musical journey as a young person.
|
| |
maybe they'll swap bands
|
| |
Always held hope they would come back to the states, but grateful I was able to see them live twice in my lifetime. If new material does indeed drop, of course I will give it a chance... But I cannot see it being successful with Matt not being a part of it.
If I had to rank:
Casually Dressed
Welcome Home Armageddon
Conduit
Hours
Tales Don't Tell Themselves
Chapter and Verse
Memory and Humanity
|
| |
Interesting ranking, although for me it would be:
Hours
Casually Dressed
Welcome Home Armageddon
Chapter & Verse
Conduit
Memory & Humanity
Tales Don't Tell Themselves
|
| |
Man, not a lot of love for Memory & Humanity. That song has some filler for sure, but there are some bangers there for sure. My ranking is
Hours
Casually Dressed
Memory & Humanity
Welcome Home
Tales
and I didn't listen to the last two enough to rank em properly
|
| |
casually dressed
chapter and verse
conduit
memory and humanity
tales
welcome home armageddon
hours
*drops grenade leaves room*
|
| |
Hours last. I C
|
| |
its got like four songs i like at least
|
| |
Hours (hell yeah AmericnZero)
Welcome Home Armageddon
Tales Don't Tell Themselves
Casually Dressed
Conduit
Memory and Humanity
Can't say I've ever listened to Chapter n Verse
|
| |
There's a distinct lack of their first EP(s) in your rankings. That's easily top 2 or 3 for me. Juneau with skramz is top tier.
|
| |
Casually Dressed
Hours
Armageddon
who cares
|
| |
bubs nailed it, I would maybe swap Mems for Conduit but that's it. must be a miserable life not fucking with Chapter and Verse, couldn't be me
on the topic of EPs if the 4 new songs from Your History were a standalone release that'd be #1
|
| |
bubs literally has the worst ranking of anyone itt
"Hours
Casually Dressed
Welcome Home Armageddon
Chapter & Verse
Conduit
Memory & Humanity
Tales Don't Tell Themselves"
swap first two and this is correct
maybe swap chapter and conduit too
|
| |
hours is mid
|
| |
5.0 classic
blink-182 Blink-182
|
| |
oh yeah the your history is mine songs are all amazing
if memory was like 2 songs shorter itd probably be in my top 3. album is hooks galore and a bunch of my favorite songs theyve done are on that
|
| |
lol ya cut the closer and Someday the Fire and it's golden
album is hook city
|
| |
Is it appropriate now to start a ffaf cover band
|
| |
Im not a great singer but i could front a posthardcore cover band.
|
