New Suffocation Album, Song

2023-09-12 by Fernando Alves STAFF | 51 Comments
Iconic death metallers Suffocation will be dropping their ninth album, Hymns From The Apocrypha, on November 3rd via Nuclear Blast Records. The album's lead single, 'Seraphim Enslavemen', can be streamed below.

Directed and edited by Tom Flynn

Derek Boyer comments: "This is my fifth full-length studio album with SUFFOCATION and this album came out SICK! It features all of the brutal, technical, chaotic twists and turns everyone would expect from SUFFOCATION, plus new elements that are out of the normal realm one might expect. This is the sophomore effort of working with Christian Donaldson (who mixed and mastered Live In North America) and he absolutely KILLED IT on this one!!! We can't wait to bring these songs to the stage and crush everything in our path!"

Ricky Myers states: "We are thrilled to unveil our 11th full-length album, Hymns From The Apocrypha, a creatively composed piece that blends our style of music with lyrical depth and intricate artwork. This album is a testament to our devotion to brutal music, which we display in the video of our single, 'Seraphim Enslavement', a visual journey that complements the album's concept."

Hymns From The Apocrypha is the first release featuring the new vocalist Ricky Meyers.

I just commented like two days ago how there was no word on a new album.

Song is really good, especially the last minute.

Wasn't sure I could get with Suffo w/o Frank but this guy sounds pretty good. Song is mid but not terrible, always glad to hear those signature Hobbs riffs

You act like Frank got canned or something. He was just tired of the constant touring process. He wanted a break. New guy is cool and a good addition.

I mean whatever the process was to him being out of the band I'm not to concerned about i personally just don't like the band with out frank on vocals. Not a uncommon opinion. Glad their still around tho

last time i saw them the drummer of disgorge was on vox, still a fun show. vocals sound fine, i'd have to give him points for not completely imitating mullen.

my tv speakers probably aren't doing this justice buut those bassdrum triggers are a bit high in the mix, 2000s vibes

[oh and apparently MA lists disgorge drummer still as their current vox, i can at least confirm he can do the old stuff live no problem.]

just feels kinda toxic lol. to each their own tho i'm not judging. i personally grew tired of frank's false chord dry heaves over the years lol and think this new guy sounds monstrous.

i gotta be honest guys, if you went back in time and didnt tell anyone suffo had a new vocalist, no one would have been able to tell. ive been watching recent live vids and dude is about as close an approximation of frank as you can possibly get.

also track is pretty good. sounds like souls to deny which is a decent album in its own right.

"Hmmm. How so lol?"

Vocalists are just a part of the music, and in metal, arguably the smallest part. Lyrics and vocal performance can be important don't get me wrong, but at the end of the day the overall composition is what makes or beaks it.

^Buddy I don't like the new vocalist if you do awesome. I'm not speaking for you I'm speaking for myself lol. Frank was with them since the beginning and when the switch happened I wasn't on board he was the voice of the band and one of the better dm vocalists. Some band members you just can't replace frank to me was one of them.
No hate against the new guy but it's not suffocation to me personally anymore if you dig it great

Agreed. If i like it, i like it. If i don’t, i don’t. Simple. Bands names, or whatever, are only relevant as much as we make them. Fuck it. Song rips. Good health to all. I like it

suffocation is Hobbes though. sure Frank is the frontman and face of the band and it sucks he’s done but the sound of suffocation is Hobbes. as long as he’s there, it’s suffocation.
