Mick Mars vs Motley Crue

2023-04-07 by Fernando Alves STAFF | 20 Comments
"I carried these bastards for years", said Mick Mars, guitarist and co-founder of the American glam metal band Mötley Crüe, in his first interview following the controversy surrounding his lawsuit against his former bandmates.

On Thursday (April 6th), Mick's attorney filed the lawsuit on behalf of the guitarist in Los Angeles County Superior Court, alleging that the other Crüe members organized a campaign to kick Mick out of the band and strip him of his ownership in the group's company. Mick claims that Mötley Crüe reduced his profit share after he announced his retirement from touring.

Mick Mars told Variety: "Those guys have been hammering on me since '87, trying to replace me. They haven't been able to do that, because I'm the guitar player. I helped form this band. It's my name I came up with, my ideas, my money that I had from a backer to start this band. It wouldn't have gone anywhere.

The thing that they keep pushing, for many years, is that I have a bad memory. And that's full-blown, out-of-proportion crap. Around 2012, when they first started saying that my memory was bad and I didn't remember the songs, I came home and saw all my doctors, because I keep myself together, because I'm an old bastard. They had all the 10th Street people there [from the band's management] — probably about five or six people — [versus] all my doctors going: "There's nothing wrong with him." And now they're still playing that game with me.

So, no, the truth is: I want to retire from touring because of my AS (Ankylosing spondylitis, an inflammatory, arthritic disease that causes vertebrae to fuse). I don't have a problem remembering the songs. I don't have a problem with any of that stuff. But I do have a problem with them, constantly, the whole time, telling me that I lost my memory. No. Wrong. That's wrong. Absolutely wrong.

But my stupid body is telling me 'No, don't do that' [stay on the road]. You know, I'm gonna be 72 years old, and I've been touring with these guys 41 years, helping build the brand, helping do this and that. And you're served with papers and going, this is crazy. This is stupid. I mean, come on."

Mick Mars claims, among other things, that on The Stadium Tour, with Def Leppard, 100% of Nikki Sixx's bass parts were pre-recorded, and some of the singing and drumming were not performed live.

Before reading about management, I instantly thought about management.

The fucking management.

Vince is a lousy drunk driver, Nikki is going into country music, Tommy plays with his stick in public and Mick is old. I cast my vote on the old one.

To the surprise of absolutely no one, everyone in Motley Crue (except for Mick) is still a massive asshole

Mick is the man, one of the guitar players that got me interested in picking up the instrument. Sad to see it come to this but I'm behind Mick all the way!

So glad to see Mick getting the respect on here. Obviously I enjoy the old Crue records but fuck the members as human beings. Mick kicks ass.

mick is the only one in this band with a modicum of integrity. the rest of them are all rapacious, narcissistic hacks.

i went to see their "the end" tour in 2016, seeing t-shirts at the merch stand for like £60, and a half-baked performance with this cringe conclusion at the end, with the promise they were done "wE sIgNeD a CoNtRaCt tHaT sToPs uS", only to break it after a couple of years because of an intentional loophole in their contract, just because the netflix movie did well and they realised they could make more money.

the fanbase annoys me the most though, because they don't call these clowns out for what they really are, and insist on seeing a fat guy wail out of key and completely butcher his songs while the rest of the band play to a backing track.

John5 shouldn't waste his time with these old farts. I realize it's good money, but he could've joined a band that has something more going on than Motley Crue.

Mick has literally been the main draw of Crue since the beginning. His guitar playing is so unique and interesting and I'm sad that it was wasted on Motley Crue and Nikki Sixx's half-assed songwriting.

Mick was in a gazillion bands no one heard of before the Crue. Nikki Sixx's half-assed songwriting and the band's schtick is the only thing that separates him from an also-ran like Tracii Guns tbh. And they all clearly care more about their millions than how they wasted their super unique and interesting sleaze rock riffs.

Amazing how playing with incompetent hacks for 40 years convinces everyone that the competent hack contributed more than dumbed-down [Ace Frehley] riffs (see also: Mark Tremonti)

Hacks is a bit harsh. Pop music is entertainment and they've entertained plenty. To paraphrase KILL, "I guess it works, so hats off to them."

they have only two decent albums rest is mostly trash, also it's Mick's band so good luck getting rid of him (literally named the band and everything)
