So true. Their run from 1980-1991 is probably my favorite by any band, and they probably could have keep going at that pace, this century they've seemed fine with just farting around, and then over-thinking anything they do to the point that it feels meaningless. I wish I could have managed them for the last 20 years.

yea thats the other thing with it too its been in development for like over a decade now so a lot of its best ideas have definitely been sanded down and sterilized in typical modern u2 fashion. what id give to be able to just go in the vault and here what they were working on back then tho

Everything about this songs of such-and-such series they're doing has really just screamed to high heavens everything that ticks people off about U2 it's almost impressive

rowan dude it has been 13 years since they've released an album that hasn't been titled Songs of X. this is the third one in the series and it's not even original material but a self-covers album. I don't feel like this is a ~big leap~ or anything for a disappointed "fan" of the band's early stuff to point out.
