Soilwork's David Andersson dies

2022-09-14 by Fernando Alves STAFF | 39 Comments
Sweden's Soilwork announced this morning (Wednesday) via their social media that the band's guitarist, David Andersson, has passed away at the age of 47. The announcement goes as follows:

"We are deeply saddened today, as we bring the terrible news of David Andersson's passing. He was one of a kind and a brilliant man in so many ways. He was our guitarist for more than 10 years and had a big impact on SOILWORK's musical journey forward. Sadly alcohol and mental illness took you away from us. We will miss him dearly and will continue to carry the musical legacy that he was a part of. Our deepest condolences goes out to his family. Forever grateful for the time we spent with you and all the good laughs.

"Thank you Dr. Dave. See you on the other side.

"We encourage everyone to respect the privacy of David's family and friends in these tragic times."

David Andersson, who was also a member of The Night Flight Orchestra, joined the band in 2012 as Peter Wichers' replacement.

Total shocker, absolutely huge R.I.P. (2).
I would argue it was his input that made Soilwork leap over their late 2000's slump and deliver such great albums like The Living Infinite and The Ride Majestic. Also read that he commited suicide which makes it extra sad. If you feel hopeless, talk to someone, anyone. : (

Hearing them mention alcohol and mental illness in the statement is just brutal, as someone who is struggling with something similar... RIP

Yeah I thought the same when I read it. Really unnecessary imo. They could've said something like he struggled with depression

I won't judge too hard because they were the ones close to him and not me. Just don't feel like the alcoholism bit was necessary

Just got back home and read this... I'm at a loss for words. It is extremely upsetting and I can only imagine the pain and guilt of the ones around him.

"Good on them for being open about what happened. Nobody is saying you're a terrible person because you died of alcoholism, but you still died of alcoholism, no use skirting around the reality of it like its some dirty secret that people drink themselves to death ALL THE TIME."

But he committed suicide correct? He didn't die from liver failure. It's just unnecessary details imo that could simply remain private between his family and friends. Obviously, not everyone feels that way though. Not saying my opinion is the law

RIP to this man! Haven't really jammed much more than a few tracks from the past 10 years from them. I'll jam an album with him on it in his honor. What album do you guys recommend with him behind the guitar?

A lot of people end up in that cycle of mental illness and alcohol abuse, even people who have a lot going for them, mental illness and addiction doesn't care who you are. Scary.

Man... Soilwork isn't one of my favorites, but I respect them, and I can tell there's a lot of heart in his contributions. Sad news. R.I.P.
