This shit is blocked at work. Is it really all that different from the original?

eh. it's a re-record and slight modernisation and reimagination, not a complete re-write

To me, it sounds pretty different. The chorus, the keyboards, the tempos all are different (the actual lyrics are the same, though).

Also listening to this version and then listening to the original makes the original sound like a cheap demo. It makes me wish they had picked the best tracks from the debut EP through Karmacode or Shallow Life and re-recorded those instead of doing just one album.

I'm excited to hear this whole thing. The last Lacuna Coil album I actually was excited for was Karmacode.... and it turned out to not be very good.

Yeah, Karmacode didn’t age well

"Our Truth" was an awesome single, but most of the rest just wasn't that good.

--a few held up over time--

"Fragile", "To the Edge", "Our Truth", and "What I See" are good.

Comalies is their best imo so I was kind of dreading hearing this but it's actually not bad. sounds better than the actual newer material they're doing in this style.

It's different enough from the OG track to fool you into thinking it's a different song, wouldn't say it's any better though

Took him like 20 years to come to terms with the fact that he can't sing

But I do hope there are at least some cleans from him, he's not always unlistenable and it's often the melodies that don't do him favors

Is it the Melodies not doing him any favors or is it that his voice is just so limited it’s the best they can write for him.

Well he sung the chorus for "Fragile" rather decently, definitely out of his comfort zone

Re-recording sounds like a good idea, but the production sounds awful here, as is the case with most modern metal albums. I prefer the drums on the original.
