The australian progressive/experimental band Twelve Foot Ninja calls on an hiatus on a Facebook post. The announcement follows the departure from their main singer Nik "Kin Etik" Barker at the end of 2021 and a call for a new singer with online vocal auditions.

« G'day everyone,
Since announcing Nik's departure in late 2021; we've had close to 200 people send vocal auditions from all over the planet (regrettably, no animals or extra-terrestrials applied). Some folks have been really impressive, some quite bizarre, but on balance everyone went to a lot of effort and for that we're very humbled. Unfortunately, we didn't hear anything that felt like "Twelve Foot Ninja" (as nebulous as that may read).
In addition, maintaining the personal resources required to meet the multi-faceted demands of a project like Twelve Foot Ninja started to become untenable, and frankly, unenjoyable (except in Russ’ case, but he actually enjoys Red Rooster chicken rolls - so his baseline is clearly warped) resulting in the tough decision to pull up stumps and go on an indefinite hiatus. In light of this, we have to cancel Europe in 2023 and hope the advance notice gives our European fans time to adjust any plans they may have made. Ticket refunds from point of purchase. We're genuinely sorry for any inconvenience caused to our supporters but ask for your understanding: without a suitable vocal replacement and the project becoming more squeeze than juice, it’s not right to roll the dice on these issues being solved in an appropriately timely manner. Hence, we’re making the tough call now in the hope to minimise fuckery.
We're keeping the ninja social platforms (Facebook, Instagram, YouTube) to post what we're up to individually and collectively. Except Twitter...Twitter can fuck right off.
Ro has been working on a full length, Ninja acoustic album (Nik on vocals) featuring all of our greatest hits that missed. We'll whack a couple of tracks on the ol’ streaming platforms, but the majority of the tracks will be available on the physical album.

At some point in the timeline perhaps we’ll return with renewed passion and energy. Perhaps riding mighty thunder lizards exploding out of the sun. In the meantime…It would be helpful to us that there are no expectations about when that will happen.

agreed. i mean, mike patton would be the only suitable choice i can think of and that's impossible since they live in different continents to start with... so yeah, i prefer it this way. maybe kin will be back someday. plus we're getting an acoustic album so no complaints there.

Shame but yeah, without Nik the band isn't true TFN.. and why the hate for the last album? It was one of my favorites last year, little disjointed perhaps but still really, really good.. after the second one, which wasn't bad but definitely not on par with the first one, the last album saw the band being again at their best - my main problem with the album was that it was too short.. no filter thankfully but 34 minutes of new TFN is just too short

They haven't been able to write an album of consistent quality for two cycles now. Their gradual decline numbed the pain of these guys disappearing considerably.

I was actually all for them putting the band to rest after Nik exiting.
The two eps and Silent Machine are top shelf, outlier and vengeance both have some great material.
To me Nik is irreplaceable in his vocals and personality.
I'll look forward to seeing what other projects they get happening.

Hardly. Im gutted that i never got to see them live. And i'll take inconsistent albums from these guys every day of the week if the alternative was nothing. At least the silver lining is that they're going to put out the acoustic album ive been begging Stevic and Ro for.

Not surprising, but still: sadness. One of my favorites. Lots of music to cherish and spin. Would've been lovely to buy the lads a beer a day, but alas.
