Twelve Foot Ninja vocalist quits

Aussie proggers Twelve Foot Ninja have announced that they are parting ways with their longtime vocalist Nik Barker AKA "Kin Etik". Per Barker:

"After 14 years, hundreds of beers, a few albums, and a couple of tours, with my favourite knuckleheads, I have made the difficult decision to end my tenure as vocalist of Twelve Foot Ninja.
[...]
As to the "Why?" The creative tension between Steve and I has contributed to some great music that I’m truly proud of. But also, it has taken its cumulative toll and I feel creatively fatigued in this particular dynamic. It has reached a point of taking more than I feel I can give to it, and this would eventually be to the detriment of the music."

Per guitarist Stevic Mackay:

"I'm like a robot programmed to attack tasks until the desired outcome is reached, and Nik is a spiritual earthling who wants to be happy...And in this industry, with the return we get...I can't blame him for wanting something more. He's a dad, he's a talented dude and life is too short to be unhappy. I speak on behalf of everyone in the band when I say we love him, we want the best for him and his family, we support his choice and we look forward to our last upcoming shows with Nik."

Barker will remain with the band through 2022 as they search for a vocalist to replace him.

On some level I kind of do too. It's almost more saddening that he's simply been worn out by the business of being in a band.

As much as I feel they’ve fallen off over time, yeah, he feels pretty integral. Will be weird without him

Band can't continue without him, one of my favourite modern metal vocalists tbh.

Yeah, they should just disband. I don't think they'll ever find a suitable replacement.

"sounds like theyre on good terms still tho which is nice" - yeah, too many acrimonious shit slinging situations like this. I'm glad for him, sounds like the kinda decision you don't accept easily

Something happened to him after he administered the dream gravy..

Fucking sad news, dunno how they'll make it work without him.

i feel like TFN never really "broke through" like they deserved. I'm sure with that much tenure and effort put into the band, it's gotta be exhausting. they'll never find a better vocalist though. probably best if they just go instrumental if anything

Yeah, they're going to have a hard time replacing Kin, but if they go instrumental they'd better go acoustic.

Nice to see such an amicable parting between band members. It's not too often that both parties give statements like this.

A friend of mine is keen on Tatiana from Jinjer fronting TFN and while it does make a certain amount of perverse sense I hope that doesn't happen.

I was saying "weird" as a comment on Twelve Foot Ninja's singer leaving the band. I find it weird as in "suspicious."

What's suspicious about a guy quitting a band to focus on other things in his life? He's not even the first member of TFN to do it. The bassist quit 2-3 years ago.

damnit he is such a great singer. hope they find someone worthwhile who can bring some of his same energy. they’re gonna have to be very dynamic.

@SitarHero, sometimes one can find something suspicious intuitively. Like "for some reason, I've got the feeling there's something beyond appearances here."
Stating that appearances are not suspicious just misses the point.

But I was not inferring anything truly. I'm just very surprised and maybe the absolutely perfect official statement without anybody holding a grudge against anybody felt very clean. Also, spontaneously, the last album didn't feel like an album that would be followed by that kind of event. +the singer is so burnt out that he's actually going to complete the tour.

So yeah, it's just weird to me. I'm not saying there's a murder behind it.
I mean, things very rarely happen so smoothly. (I'm a traumatized fear factory fan).

yo that acoustic instrumental slaps

It sure does. Ro does some stunning instrumental stuff on youtube and instagram, but the band is generally incredibly good at acoustic versions. I've had my fingers crossed for years that they'd do an acoustic greatest hits collection and Stevic has hinted that they were thinking about it, but alas...with Nik now leaving I don't think it's every going to happen.
