Quite restrained by DT standards, song doesn't really go anywhere.

Definitely the "mainstream sounding" song of the record. Not terrible, but definitely not as good as the Alien.
|
| |
Harmonically it's kinda weird for a song this straightforward. Chorus really doesn't hit properly on first listen. Some neat guitar work in the verses and the bridge hits nice. Overall it just feels underwhelming but there is some good ideas. The Alien was definitely stronger.

garbage song, super sanitized which I guess is typical dream theater. if you like dream theaters sound you'd probably like it, I guess. but yeah, Zero balls and no grit whatsoever. It's like sanitized prog ''rock/metal music'' the guys vocals have zero feeling in them. it sounds like he is just reading lyrics as his job to get paid. another day at the office.

Falling Into Infinity vibes

Not really lol

Nothing like FiF

Definitely a weaker track than the alien. I'm hoping that this is the "radio friendly" track of the album and the rest are a step up from this. It was just so safe and predictable. I liked the solo though!

It's overall pretty straightforward, but there are still some neat things going on. The time signatures during the first verse is pretty cool, and the almost diminished-sounding lead during the pre-chorus was interesting. I also thought the way the vocals and guitars interacted in the second verse was really satisfying. Both guitar solos are nice.
The chorus is pretty bad, though. James saying "Invisible Mooooonsteeeerrrrr" sounds SO cheesy.

so why do they do a "commercial" song on every album? is it a tradition thing since pull me under, or do they legitimately chart?
|
| |
I’m too lazy to look it up but I can’t imagine that DT’s radio-friendly songs chart
|
| |
Not very good. The alien still gives me high hopes for the album as a whole but we'll see
|

Live In Budokan was their peak for me and it hurts hearing LaBrie not doing any better on a song than I do myself.

A bit of a let down so far

AI-generated Dream Theater song

I don't understand how fans of this band can criticize them for being corny and cheesy, I mean they have always been cheesy, lyrically, always. There are no good lyrics on any of their albums, that I've heard.
Listen to the song lie from way back in the 90's, terrible lyrics.
I mean if you don't like cheesy music you can't be a Dream Theater fan.

They need to stop catering to Liquid Metal XM radio.
Atrocious
|
| |
yeah i'm not feeling this one, very generic with recycled ideas
