Yeah this did not fit with the vocals at all to me. A lot of the melodies don't work.

Excited to hear some of these features like Ross, Mike, and Courtney, but this wasn't a good first single for me.

I'm out of the loop why is Letchford a dick? I'm guessing it's related to all the member turnover? And yeah song is fine but vocals completely kill any willingness to ever hear it again.

Short version is he wouldn't pay any of the members any tour money and so basically wanted them to play and tour for free citing band debt and stuff that he incurred. From what I've read anyway

as a Kindo fan it is wild to hear Secchiaroli's voice on a track like this, he's a fantastic singer

I am now convinced that he could actually front a prog metal band, but StS is such a guitar wankery band that you can't just insert a vocalist into it. Too much is competing for the 'lead'. Secchiaroli's voice is great but the way he's used here makes no sense.

I used to watch these guys play locally before they went major label or whatever. Then Chris fucked over his band. Good for Jordan for finding success elsewhere.

StS kinda died with me after The Migration, but as a former mega fan, I'll definitely check this out upon release for the curiosity factor. The song isn't anything special, but it's decent at least. There's potential for this to be interesting.

Such a radical fall. The music feels extremely uninspired, though not as bad as the last album, and Chris looks like he’s putting way more effort on looking like an Olympic level tool than making good music.

Personally never understood the appeal of this genre and bands such as this, intervals, Plini and especially polyphia but was curious to see what this would sound like with vocals on it.
Still not for me but will come back to check out the one featuring Courtney LaPlante

Say what you want about the song or Letchford, that LED fretboard is cool as hell.

And I feel like Ian Kenny set the bar for guest vocal turn on an instrumental prog song with that tune he did with Olly Steele. This is nice, but it doesn't always gel that well.

Instrumental albums rarely - if ever - speak to me. Scale the Summit's The Migration might be the only album I've invested and liked since it came out probably

The addition of vocals had no chance of being a good fit. And I suspect Chris is too much of a dick to work with musicians who will actually participate full time and help make the band what it was for the first 4 albums.

This is a bit better than most of his last album (which IMHO was pretty bad and forgettable), but still very far from even the worst stuff StS used to put out when it was a real band. And as much as I love Joseph's vocals and Kindo, they don't fit in here, but that's not really his fault.
Chris is still doing his thing of throwing in as many incoherent ideas into a song as possible, so even if individually the sections might be decent, they don't work together as a song at all.

It's not bad - but it's not good. I'll predict that there will be 1-3 deep cuts with the other vocalists that will probably be decent. This band peaked at "The Collective".

I don't understand the hate Chris gets. His wife is a best selling author and he lives a pretty comfortable life. His past bandmates were obviously not making as much money and expected him to pay them more than the band was bringing in. He straight up said its not his place to pay with with money that his wife brings in and he was paying them strictly from the proceeds from the band.

nash1311

^ false, that was his excuse but they already debunked it. You should dig deeper and read more about it. They (the other members) already came out and said he wanted them to essentially play for free. Not the same as asking for "too much". In addition, they also said what they asked for was certainly within the bands means because they knew what the band was making. He would blame debt that he had incurred that they had no say over. On top of all of this, past members even came back and said he's a scammer as well.

Certain portions of this screenshot wise are gone, but the gist is there:
https://www.metalsucks.net/2016/10/31/scale-the-summit-break-up-turns-ugly/

It is definitely a bit of he-said/he-said, but I'm def more inclined to believe the multiple members saying he sucks than his excuse that they wanted his wife's money lol

Reading through that thread, there are several strange things about the situation.

If the band had an "employee" model, then Letchford should have been paying a set salary for his employees not revenue-sharing as they claim he was doing. The fact that they had no say or control over finances AND no actual leverage on payment means that either:
a. They are just HORRIBLE at doing business, or
b. That's not how the band functioned at all.

The problem is that they claim they were paid $1500 for 300 hours of work, which sucks but at the same time, they didn't have to accept that deal. If he said he can't afford to pay them more then, okay, find someone else willing to work for that amount of money. You can't accept a deal and then turn around and say you were conned because Chris actually could have paid more if he wanted to.

nash1311
May 28th 2021
8130 Comments

I'm not sure that they were conned. Moreso maybe they wanted to be a part of the band and he made it impossible due to pay scale?

Also I believe the way it reads is, it wasn't an employee model at all which is why they never got paid. They tried to have it implemented and he basically said no cause I can't guarantee you anything

Imagine joining a middling instrumental prog band where you're not the primary songwriter and thinking that you're going to make any kind of serious money. Don't know what these peeps were expecting.

All of this wouldn't have happened if Letchford just told them honestly they wont be paid well, maybe hes an compulsive liar who knows, he is probably the one in the wrong though...

Damn that's cool there is instrumental version and vocal version on spotify, and that single art is awesome, I might prefer it to the actual album art he chose.

He does look like a douche in this video, the light up inlay guitar is just a gimmick to me, its semi cool I guess.

On another note, should the instrumental edition of Subjects be considered the LP and the vocal edition as a compilation, or vice-versa? Or should both be considered LPs? (Talking strictly on how they're classified in the database)
