New Ichiko Aoba album + vinyl reissues 2020-10-30 by dimsim3478 | 14 Comments | Japanese singer-songwriter Ichiko Aoba has just announced that her seventh album Windswept Adan will be released on December 2. It will be Aoba's first studio album under her newly launched independent label Hermine (with distribution by Space Shower Music), marking her departure from Speedstar Records (a subsidiary of the large Victor Entertainment company). Aoba previously operated the independent label Shinonome Rokuon through which she released her first three albums.
According to her latest Instagram post, Aoba has been working on Windswept Adan since January and she describes it as "a soundtrack for a fictional movie". The album features music written and arranged by solo artist and score composer "Milk" Taro Umebayashi (noted for his work on the anime series Space Dandy and Yuri!!! on Ice) in collaboration with Aoba. The lead track from the album is "Porcelain", released today as Aoba's third single of the year following "Amuletum Bouquet" in January and "Seabed Eden" in September. Her other 2020 releases were the "Gift" at Sogetsu Hall live album (along with the supplementary ambient track "Sogetsu BGM"); "Karakai / Amaneki", a 12" collaborative single with Sweet William; "Hoshi no Yubisaki", her contribution to a benefit compilation organised by the alternative rock band GEZAN (which is fronted by Mahi to the People, her partner in the collaborative side project NUUAMM); and the "Choe" tracks, created as part of a serialized multimedia project for the magazine & Premium.
Aoba also announced today that P-Vine Records will be releasing her first four albums on vinyl for the first time ever to celebrate 10 years since her debut. The limited edition records will feature fresh remasters of all four albums. Kamisori Otome and Origami will be available starting from 16 December 2020, while Utabiko and 0 will be released on 20 January 2021. Japanese music shops have already begun accepting pre-orders for the vinyl reissues. Aoba also made the highly sought-after vinyl edition of her sixth album qp available to purchase from her official webstore last month (http://ichikoaoba.theshop.jp).

| | | Most Japanese music stores don't ship internationally (especially since COVID) so you may need to use a proxy buying service if you're interested in getting any Ichiko vinyl. Consult the "proxies" section of this guide for more info: http://old.reddit.com/r/japanesemusic/comments/dagaj8/how_to_buy_music_stuff_from_japan_a_guide/
Alternatively, you could order them thru CDJapan, who are still shipping internationally, but as of this moment they've only opened pre-orders for Kamisori Otome and Origami, not the other two http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/person/499177 HMV Japan is another option for direct purchasing; I think they may have started shipping internationally again (but only to certain countries)? http://www.hmv.co.jp/en/artist_Ichiko-Aoba_000000000428599/
To find stores that are selling the vinyl reissues, search "青葉市子 アナログ" or "青葉市子 [title of the record in Japanese, e.g. 剃刀乙女] アナログ" on Google or Twitter. One store that I'd recommend is Tower Records http://tower.jp/artist/1605102 They have pre-orders up right now.

Beast of an article, nice work
| | | woah consider me hype
| | | damn, good scoop. google "ichiko aoba reissues" and this is the first thing that comes up. it's lit
| | | Holy shit what an announcement. No Mahoroboshiya re-issue is mind-boggling though. Dammit, Speedstar.
| | | YES
| | | best news
| | | Just updated this article. Apparently, Taro Umebayashi wrote the music for the entirety of the new album.
| | | So it definitely won't feature Bouquet (and presumably her other singles from this year)? I guess we've all heard them enough by now
| | | Amuletum might be on the album since the music on that track was also written by Taro. No word yet on whether Ichiko wrote any music for the album, but I kinda doubt it.
| | | F, I'm kind of bummed now. I don't want an album from Ichiko that's not even written by her. Have it be a collab, and not an official album if that's the case. Cautiously optimistic now. I prefer Aoba when it's just her. That's when she's best.
| | | It's true that the songs and records she writes herself are her best work but after the safe-sounding qp I could go for a bit of a departure from her usual style. That's part of why I love the NUUAMM records so much; they always offered a chance to hear Ichiko doing something a bit outside the established territory of her sound.
