So so good
| |
Very nice, yes
| |
Thanks DBoy, edited!
Didn't know they released a vid!

3.2/5 song ..... are those Breaking Benjamins riffs i'm hearing? Vox are angelic ofc, but kind of sound like the same melodies he's been peddling since Ecailles. I do really love the second half though, and i feel like the harsh vox in it are some of the best he's done. Really raw and pained sounding, stronger than they usually feel.
| |
Also, nice that they kind of streamlined after Kodama. Not that they needed to as that album is very good, but just for varieties sake.
| |
Yeah his harsh vox here are superb, I noticed them too.
| |
Never listened to much Alcest but that was delightful
| |
Production wise all around this is the strongest, most driving, they've ever sounded. That opener/verse riff is rehashed Les Voyages, the 2nd section is rehashed Kodama, the "breaking benjamin riff" (lol) is the freshest part of the song. 4:40 to the end is beautiful. Songwriting wise I think it's fantastic, but agree it's nothing new. I personally at this moment in time don't mind the fact that it's all kinda something we've heard before. Their sound is unique and enjoyable and if we get an amalgamation of their greatest moments in one record, I'll be happy with that
| |
''I personally at this moment in time don't mind the fact that it's all kinda something we've heard before. Their sound is unique and enjoyable and if we get an amalgamation of their greatest moments in one record, I'll be happy with that''
Amen.
I was super afraid after hearing they signed with Blast, but this doesn't sound like your average overproduced crap at all luckily.
| |
Yeah, I won't be super disappointed if it comes out similar sounding to what they've done in the past -- I mean, what they've done in the past is why I like them so much! I do hope he does a bit more with this vox though, that would be my only really big gripe.
| |
This is great, really great.
| |
simple and effective. beautiful
| |
Well, I thought Alcest had finally hit their stride with songwriting with Kodama, but now it's back to power chords and oo's and ah's. Only this time, they just tuned down. Sounds like Breaking Benjamin attempting to do blackgaze lol.
| |
doesn't really sound that different from Kodama to me. there's plenty of power chords and oo's and ah's to be found there too
| |
I mean yea, this is a bit more straightforward song, but I think it works great as a single. I doubt the entire album will be like that.
| |
This just sounds like something off Shelter with tuned down guitars. And Shelter was awful.
Kodama was the only album they've released that effectively utilized post-rock guitar work and songwriting within their own sound, and it absolutely shits on everything else they've done.
| |
Sounds awesome, definitely gonna give their last album a good listen now.
| |
lol literally not hearing that in the slightest
| |
Also "Kodama [...] absolutely shits on everything else they've done" is so untrue. The difference isn't that big and Ecailles is best Alcest.
| |
Ecailles is best Alcest [2]
| |
[3]
But Kodama is a 5 too.
| |
Also Shelter slayz.
| |
No Alcest is a five though. Shelter blows.
| |
Great track
| |
''But Kodama is a 5 too.'' [2]
| |
Yes they are and no it doesn’t.
| |
If the song is any indicator of how the rest of the album sounds, I can definitely see it being on par with Kodama and Écailles.
| |
Me too, sounds great.
| |
Better than anything on Kodama thus far, love how dynamic this is
| |
I can’t even imagine getting “breaking Benjamin riffs” out of anything this band has ever done lol
| |
I love how people assume that one song automatically means the whole album will sound like this. Christ, it's a single
| |
We're not saying it WILL sound like this we're saying we would be happy if it did.
| |
"I love how people assume that one song automatically means the whole album will sound like this. Christ, it's a single"
literally not one person said anything like this lmao
| |
Band has always been massively overrated. Not bad by any means but I've never understood the hype
| |
Awesome song yesssssss
| |
It's dreamy and Neige's harsh vocals totally rule.
| |
Nu Metal riffs
| |
Chester B on vocals.
| |
yeah hate to be a part of the "meh" crowd but some people share my impressions: some weird instrumentation and some weird mixing, almost like a small departure from blackgaze/post-bm. hopefully it's an outlier in the rest of the album!
| |
oh LOL i saw the cute girl on the beach and i was thinking "sweet this is going to be an awesome ethereal pretty gaze music video" but now she's contorting like regan from the exorcist and woof
| |
boring as per the standard with alcest
| |
Ahahahaha boring.
| |
also i gotta give some support to shelter against the hate. love that album so goddamn much
| |
b o r i n g
| |
N o
Hmm, that isn't convincing when there's only two letters. I should have thought that through...
| |
This is basically like limp bizkit tried their hand at death-gaze, not digging those 'catch scratch fever' riffs either.
| |
They have tuned down, haven't they? Not sure I'm a fan, but the song got increasingly great and I want more now.
| |
Shelter does indeed rule, I think the timing was just off. I don't think anyone expected the direction it took and a lot of people also thought it marked a permanent change in their sound, now that we know it didn't a lot of people are appreciating it more, myself included.
| |
I think Shelter is a bit flat (and even boring, so starboystargirl had a point). It's too pearly-pretty-sweet all the time for my tastes. I can take that from other bands no problem, but for Alcest it doesn't really work for me.
| |
Fair enough yeah, I do have to be in the mood for it for sure.
| |
lol. it's been an album i put on whenever i'm not sure what i feel like playing
| |
I’m just gonna assume those of you equating this to nu metal are just trolling bc no one can be that dumb
| |
The individual tracks are fine though, I'm always glad to hear Opale or Délivrance being played at gigs! It's just a little too much to take in in one go.
| |
botb totally was yeah
| |
this was 100% nu metal wow was that a slapknuts riff i heard? for shame!
| |
I'm certain I also heard scratching at some point.
| |
DJ LETHAL! BRING IT ON!
| |
I guess Trip Hop would be an acceptable direction for Alcest.
| |
A great direction for every band, goat genre.
Ok, an overstatement but hey, what you gonna do
| |
i think i'd be happy for that youthful spiritual "celtic" vibe on souvenirs
| |
Oh Trifo, lean back and imagine a timeline where Alcest teamed up with Portishead and released a double album.
| |
Egarran please do tell me more about this world.
| |
It doesn't sound much like Kodama to me (except for Neige's vocals and some brief parts of the ending passage) and the mixing could be better, but I still dig this track. I think Alcest could pull this album off really well. Here's hoping.
| |
>people complaining that it sounds the same as his previous work
>same people think Shelter is terrible
| |
Shelter rules and i personally don’t think it’s timing was that out of the blue.
| |
gib more of dem screams
seriously that part of the song fucking rules
| |
Soooo that makes it a new Alcest, new Norma Jean, new Sunn and release day for The Outer Worlds.
Suddenly October 25th is by birthday lol
| |
So is this the 2019 version of the Lotus Flower vid
| |
What are these Limp Benjamin Cat Scratch Fever riffs that people keep referring to? This song is great.
| |
Here's hoping they tour near me this time.
| |
let's just move to france together bro
| |
This is one of the best songs they've ever made.. simply because the production actually isn't complete shit.
| |
Hahahahahahahahahaha! Do you feel the production for previous album sucked?! Whoa, opinions and how they can differ!
| |
"This is one of the best songs they've ever made.. simply because the production actually isn't complete shit."
Hahaha, you almost got me. Their albums have great production of course and if this ine is even better productionwise it's gonna be amazing
| |
Kodama had great production. Shelter was a mixed bag and anything before that was not good.
(albums were great tho)
| |
ecailles for best production
screw y'all
| |
This new Wrvth album will do til Alcest drops tho that for sure.
| |
band sounds good
| |
i guess you might think souvenirs has bad production if you only listen to music off laptop speakers
| |
They so don't have bad production. None of them do. They're nothing flashy but that totally fits with the music, the whole esthetic.
| |
yeah man i was making fun of the dude
| |
Haha I know, I would never talk to you like that!
| |
Oh yeah, this album's gonna go on the "to buy" list
| |
This is solid
| |
Some of the riffs and melodies in this song sound like an amateur's first attempt at writing melodies imo.
| |
Souvenirs doesn't have very good production. It's a constant wall of treble with no low end. May be a stylistic choice though.
| |
Mother of riffs!!
This is one of the best things I've head this year.
| |
nattens madrigal is a constant wall of treble with no low end. souvenirs has beautiful production
| |
really looking forward to this.
| |
It’s an alright song, definitely not bad and really picks up in the second half but it didn’t blow me away. I don’t like to be particularly critical of individual songs until I hear them in the context of an album
| |
this band can do better, but ill wait for the album
| |
NU METAL ALCEST
Oh wait, there are my brain cells. I was worried. I'm very sorry. Awesome song!
| |
Lovely
| |
Awesome
| |
Lol at the Nu-Metal comments. Music and main riff sound more like Tool than anything else to me, and I really like it. This song will sound massive live.
| |
He wants to reach a larger audience, and that's cool. Great track 4.5/5
| |
It was an alright song, I've heard better by them though. (example Les Voyages de l'Âme)
| |
This is pure bliss
| |
Sounds like one of his best ever ngl. Esp the 2nd half
| |
lol thread is hilarious. first of all, as far as mainstream bands go, breaking benjamin in their prime wouldn't be a terrible one to choose, just became a stereotype of themselves after a time (which wasn't very long). second of all, at no point does this sound like breaking benjamin except in that its melodic. even the scratching sound is a different scratch sound than nu-metal has ever done. third of all, sounds exactly like Alcest in pretty much every way. 4th, Ecailles is arguably best Alcest [#], but sounds similar to Kodama lol. 5th, if Alcest managed to genuinely sound like nu-metal half the time whilst still sounding like Alcest, it'd be better than Alcest.
and lastly, great track.
| |
The lol test wins again.
| |
I think there was only one serious nu metal comparison and that was the one about breaking benjamin, all of the other ones were just playing off of that as a joke, mine included. Nothing sounds at all Nu Metal on this obviously.
| |
still don't like this track much
someone put me out of my misery
| |
You could choose not to hear it anymore.
| |
other ppl get to enjoy alcest why can't i
| |
I hope it clicks for you eventually budgie that is the best I can do I'm sorry
| |
It's true though. We're so really fucking sorry for you, budgie.
I'm tearing out my hair in grief.
| |
still don't like this track much
someone put me out of my misery
I think it's because you were expecting something mindblowing, but got something "just great" instead, budgie. The song will probably appeal to you more within the context of the album.
| |
nice video
bowling alley dad riffs
boring chorus
alcest has a pleasant sound but so do lots of other bands that are less acclaimed. i just don't get why they get so much praise
| |
Indeed we do Egarran. I'm happy there's much of it on my head
| |
@Flug Neige's vox are amazing, plus the atmosphere of Alcest is almost always spot on. They really understand how to convey that glimmering, airy, dreamy yet melancholic feeling. I think that's their strength.
| |
so im in the camp that found shelter to be a great album and kodama to be a bit boring.
guess im alone in that camp.
on second listen this feels well composed, well executed, some nice melodies in here. so pleasant, as i said before, but nothing really interesting.
| |
Hi I'm Antnee Fantano and in 'worst tracks of the week', this week, we have the new track Protection by the band Alcest, and next we have in 'best tracks of the week', we have the track Concrete by Poppy cause I have bad taste in modern metal music, thank you, you're the best, you're the best, you're the best, what should I have a bad opinion on next? my bad taste, forever.
| |
>guess im alone in that camp.
Yeah Kodama still stuns me every time. It's the most 5 album for years for me.
| |
Flugmorph are you quoting that guy from youtube or ARE you that guy from youtube?
With the bowling alley dad thing.
| |
Kodama is a ahrd 5 but Shelter is an easy 4.5 for me so it’s not far off tbh.
Don’t know why Shelter doesn’t get more love.
| |
Flug's Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCIkT9Ro28F9VQcXtTOb2lrA
| |
Flugmorph has his own youtube account though
| |
shelter is a maze ing
| |
Fuck yes.
| |
I dig the Isis sounding part in there and the boost in bass. Also sounds like Neige expanded a bit on his clean singing. It's pretty good, yes.
| |
concrete is pretty cool ngl buddy
| |
it's horrendous, Babymetal if they where abysmal
| |
nah
| |
