Funeral for a Friend reunion 2019-08-05 by Kurai | 28 Comments | After disbanding in May 2016, Welsh Post Hardcore band Funeral for a Friend are reuniting for two shows in October 2019, playing at The Globe in Cardiff on the 28th and Shepherd's Bush Empire in London on the 29th.
These two shows are charity fundraisers for Stuart Brothers, a friend of the band who has been diagnosed with a terminal illness. The bands full statement can be read below:
"FFAF Family,
When we left the stage on May 21st 2016 at London’s Kentish Town Forum, we all agreed that it was the perfect way to end Funeral For A Friend. We’d toured the UK one last time, playing some of the biggest shows we’d performed in years, in front of our friends and families. It was the perfect ending. Since then, we’ve been asked many times - ‘do you think you’ll ever come back?’ and the answer has always been a resounding ‘no’, because there was never any reason to.
Until now.
Recently, a man who can quite legitimately lay claim to being the worlds biggest FFAF fan (both literally and figuratively!), our friend Stuart ‘Big Stu’ Brothers, has been stricken with a terrible illness which has ultimately led to a terminal prognosis. Last month, Stu was given a few short weeks to live by his Doctors.
As Stu’s friends, we wanted to do something to help; particularly for his family and 3 young sons, who are going through unspeakable trauma right now. We discussed the possibility of auctioning off some FFAF memorabilia (which we’ll still do), but it became apparent that the way in which we could best help Stu was to perform some fundraising shows, with the proceeds going directly to his family.
So, on October 28th and 29th, at the Cardiff Globe and London Shepherds Bush Empire respectively - Funeral for a Friend will be performing two more shows to benefit the Brothers family.
Being that Stu was an old-school fan right from the very start, we will be predominantly performing material from the early part of our career circa 2002-2007. Joining Matt, Kris, Gav and Rich for the shows will be guitarist Darran Smith (who left the band in 2010) and drummer/vocalist Ryan Richards, who left in 2012.
Tickets will be available from Wednesday for O2 Priority Customers, and on general sale from Friday.

Either way, I'm pumped. They're my all time favourite band and I never thought I'd get another chance to see them again after their final tour.

Never sat down and tried them out, looks like it's time to spin Casually Dressed.

Be sure to spin Hours as well as Welcome Home Armageddon, Conduit, and Chapter and Verse. Hours is their follow up to Casually Dressed which I view as better than CD, whereas WHA, Conduit, and Chapter and Verse are their last three albums where they had a more Hardcore influenced sound, and they're incredibly underrated and overlooked albums.

One of the first bands I ever got into, saw them live at Hevy 2011. Great band, very evocative and inspiring. I'd recommend pretty much everything they did except Tales Don't Tell Themselves, which sucked.
May have to go to one of these shows.

They aren't Screamo in the vein of bands like Circle Takes the Square, Saetia, Orchid, Pg.99, The Saddest Landscape etc, but they were lumped in with the early 2000's 'not really Screamo but we'll call it Screamo anyway' scene with bands like Thrice, Thursday, Finch, Senses Fail, Silverstein etc.

Yep, I'm glad that they're doing it, and I'm glad that it's just a one time thing unlike when some other bands have reunited and put out mediocre albums that just tarnish their legacy (i.e. Refused and At The Drive-In)

I'm about half an hour from London, so there's no way I'm missing it unless the tickets sell out before I can get them (which they probably will if their final tour was anything to go by). The worst part is the touts are going to pounce on this show and capitalise on the demand for people to see the band by charging a king's ransom for tickets to a charity gig.

Yeah, all the band members now live in different countries and/or have full time jobs and family commitments meaning that these two shows were the only ones they were able to make happen.

So the O2 presale for their London show sold out instantly. I'm not on O2 so I didn't attempt the presale, but this makes me dread what it's going to be like on Friday.

Yeah, the tickets sold out pretty much instantly so I didn’t get one either (and neither did practically everyone on my Twitter). Sucks that the touts sought to profit off of this.
They’ve added a third show in Wales that goes on sale tomorrow morning, so I’m going to try for that with my family also helping to get me one, so hopefully I’ll manage to get one.
