New Interpol EP

2019-03-29 by Raul Stanciu STAFF | 11 Comments
Interpol announced the release of A Fine Mess EP (due out on May 17), consisting of brand new songs recorded with Dave Fridmann in between legs of their ongoing promotional tour for Marauder. After unveiling the title track a few weeks ago, a second one made its way on all streaming platforms. Listen to 'The Weekend' below:

Regarding the EP, Paul Banks mentioned: “They’re not b-sides. They’re all pretty rich rock songs with big choruses. It’s all material that we can see being played in a club with people dancing. Sometimes when you turn on an Interpol record you expect people to not be dancing because it’s coming from a more pensive or melancholy place. This is a place rocking EP.”

Also, regarding the lyrics: “’Marauder’ was a little more reflective, and this one’s more about taking the party by the horns. Maybe the lyrics are a little devious and mischievous. There’s no shame to that.”

Tracklisting:

1. Fine Mess
2. No Big Deal
3. Real Life
4. The Weekend
5. Thrones

Idk I don't really go to Interpol looking for ''happy party music'' they are at their best when being depressive. Songs are decent though.

"songs recorded with Dave Fridmann"
This guy, I swear.
He used to produce some great stuff, but lately everything he touches turns to mush.

Fine Mess is good and this is okay on first listen. Hard to get as excited for this after the relative disappointment of Marauder, but still hope it'll be enjoyable.

I love Interpol but I’m not exactly going to them for happy party music so I’m not really sure who this is for.
