HAWK (This or the Apocalypse) debut

2019-03-22 by outliers | 26 Comments
HAWK, formerly known as This or the Apocalypse, have released a new song entitled "Mileage". This is the first song to be released after a 4-5 year hiatus, with a full album set to be released presumably in 2019. The band now consists of original members Ricky Armellino and Jack Esbenshade with new drummer, Adam Reed, and bassist Bern Stabley.

The full story behind their transition from TOTA to HAWK can be read here:

http://www.hawkdotcom.com/ and the music video for "Mileage" can be seen below.

Much poppier than I wanted it to be but reminds me a bit of lower definition too

yeah i'll be disappointed if all their new stuff is this level of poppy, though I personally think they executed the sound well

^2/4ths of the band, I believe. Still fronted by Ricky, who wrote and produced most of that stuff.

I love this personally. Saw them play their first show under this moniker and there were some heavier songs in that set so don't get too worried. But this sounds awesome.

Best thing they released to this day are the early versions of "Lamnidae" & "In Wolves" on some obscure japanse demo compilation disc.

I feel like I'm missing some context on their problems over the last few years. Was there a legal dispute with a founding member or something, or was it just lack of success and such?

Not very impressed with the song but I wish them the best. Loved their stuff back in the day.

Spencer Charnas from Ice Nine Kills is doing the backing vocals on the chorus. that's neat.

@Gameofmetal

pretty confident they had a falling out with their record label. explains Ricky saying this.."I made a studio for us to spend years trying stuff out in. My mentality was that musicians needed to be in control of their own material

a non-compete with that record label would also explain why a new A&R group forced them to change their name, while not particularly caring about the new name
