That 3K song is absurdly great, he played it during a DJ set in December (saw it online, wasn't actually there lol)

it's just more of his boring rnb shtick for me. remember how creative his debut was? and a few of his eps back in the day. ever since then he's been churning out some pretty homogeneous shit, that's why i was so stoked on car beside you, it was a true return to form for him. this lead single leads me to believe it's just gonna be more of the same minimalist piano driven smooth bs as before

From the sound of his DJ set which played like 12 minutes of new material it was a bit poppier than usual and very beat heavy, the Andre song fucking KNOCKS

damn straight it's an epic fail. song was one of the few redeeming qualities in a sea of mediocrity for nearly a decade

As inconsistent as James Blake has indeed been since his debut it kind of sounds like you havent actually heard anything since based off your criticisms Matt. There are some shitty piano focal "smooth bs" songs for sure and they are always his worst but that's not an accurate descriptor for the other 75% of the songs

@gyro I feel like the length of his last album makes it feel more homogeneous than it actually is in particular. But there are some straight bangers on it!

I hope the new one pops off tho and the tracklist doesn't look overwhelming. I'm seeing him in March and get a free copy of the new alb with my ticket so fingers crossed. Also I liked the car song kinda but I'm glad it's not listed, it strikes me as a single and I can't see it making sense in the context of a Blake lp

reminds me more of Mac Miller's The Divine Feminine, aka the album-long equivalent of being shown an endless line of baby photo after baby photo and feigning interest bc you want them to be happy but also you couldn't possibly care less

I mean James Blake isn't exactly known for good album art. It fits his theme of narcissism tho

forreal, if he had other than himself on it then I can understand the complaint but it’s no worse than overgrown. it’s intimate, it’s his, he doesn’t care.

I actually dig his album art most of the time. This might be a one off, but then again I haven't even heard the full album yet. So far, Mile High ain't bad, Lullaby For My Insomniac doesn't do anything for me
