awful news
hard RIP
|
| |
wow that's out of left field... poor guy RIP
also he was 44 not 49
|
| |
His playing on the first few ATR albums is so unique and yet still definitive early aughts metalcore ... gonna miss him
|
| |
I'm getting conflicting reports on his age, some say 44, others say 49.
I'll edit it if necessary when those reporters stop fucking up but I do believe 49 is the correct age
|
| |
my bad you're good dude, found his bio... idiot journalists post an article before even getting the correct age
https://www.famousbirthdays.com/people/oli-herbert.html
|
| |
everyone seems to be going back to 44 though, changed it
|
| |
Fuck man, disregarding the last few efforts he wrote some incredible riffs. RIP
|
| |
regardless, yeah he wrote some amazing riffs back in the day... his riffs on fall of ideals are some of my favorites in the genre.
|
| |
all that remains now are memories RIP
|
| |
really helped to define the best of thrash-influenced metalcore. very unfortunate. RIP.
|
| |
and that'll be the line to use when the band calls it quits
RIP metalcore pioneer. I loved Darkened Heart and Fall of Ideals mainly cuz of his work
|
| |
Damn this is shocking. Man was easily the highlight of the band. RIP
|
| |
Damn, I use to listen to them non stop in high school. Their first couple of albums were really solid.
Rest in peace.
|
| |
Wowee. It's like 2016 never ended.
|
| |
RIP
used to jam The Fall of Ideals so much back in the day
|
| |
terrible news. RIP
|
| |
rest in peace Oli. he honestly shaped my taste and experience with music more than almost any other artist, with All That Remains only being the second heavier band I ever got into and his guitar work being my main draw to them in the first place.
Regret Not seems like the perfect track to remember him by right now.
|
| |
This is awful news. His playing on The Fall of Ideals is really what hooked me into their early stuff. Gonna have to jam to Six or The Weak Willed tonight in memoriam.
|
| |
Fuck. Jammed Fall of Ideals so much as a teenager.
|
| |
Damn, Rest in peace to the man who gave me some sick jams in high school.
|
| |
I may not care for the band anymore, but The Fall of Ideals was huge to me in high school. They happened to be the first band I have seen in a smaller venue. Excellent guitar player, RIP.
Gonna jam This Darkened Heart now.
|
| |
That's awful... R.I.P.
|
| |
Sudden as hell. Gonna rock out to some TFOI tonight. Godspeed in the other journey, Oli.
|
| |
Sad
RIP
|
| |
Fuck
RIP
|
| |
RIP
|
| |
Damn, so close to the release of their new album too. I hope it's worthy of being remembered by but if not he still has a great legacy behind him. Too young too, rip.
|
| |
Losing a guitarist puts a huge hole in any rock/metal band.
|
| |
Fucking awful news
|
| |
Man was easily the highlight of the band. [2]
It's so sad that this happens. Only 44, and so close to the release of what seems to be their best album in years. Just sucks. RIP
|
| |
Really Sad. Darkened Heart and Fall of Ideals were huge for me growing up. RIP
|
| |
All jokes aside, what the fuck man, RIP
|
| |
Such a sudden, tragic passing. R.I.P.
|
| |
RIP
It looks like the new album might actually be good, thank god he at least went out on a positive note. I would have been way more sad if Madness was his last album.
|
| |
I have some friends speculating that the album would either be delayed or canceled entirely after this.
Let's hope for the best in regards to the album. Still fucking shook by this.
|
| |
Why would it be canceled? It's probably been in the can for a while now, mastered and ready to go.
|
| |
^ yeah I really don't think they would cancel it. Delay it? maybe but doubtful
|
| |
This Darkened Heart and Fall of Ideals are metalcore classics tbf, hard RIP.
|
| |
idk i guess he's worried this will be the end for ATR.
|
| |
They will most likely replace him with someone high-profile and continue on.
|
| |
That seems plausible.
I'm still unsure on Linkin Park's future post-Chester, but this could be a lot easier of a decision.
|
| |
Was he the main songwriter?
|
| |
"I'm still unsure on Linkin Park's future post-Chester, but this could be a lot easier of a decision."
Mike said that they're going to continue on as a band, not sure if they'll get a new singer though
|
| |
Oli was one of the main songwriters, yes Exhale.
And Toon, that makes sense. But it's like we haven't gotten a lot of future information about what approach LP will be taking, y'know?
|
| |
44 years old...... RIP
|
| |
He wrote some amazing shit back in the day, this is a fucking bummer.
|
| |
Awful news RIP
|
| |
This band influenced me so much when I was younger. And even if they didn’t it doesn’t matter 44 is way too young for anyone.
RIP brother.
|
| |
Too young. RIP brother. [2]
|
| |
He definitely had the most talent out of all the members.
|
| |
Great song writer and guitarist. RIP
|
| |
no real details but the death has been ruled accidental. apparently they found him in a creek near his house, so probably drowning. fucking sucks.
|
| |
Sucks no matter how it happened, but it's still nice to hear that it wasn't yet another overdose.
|
| |
I know it concerns no one other than his family and possibly friends but I definitely want to know the details. Being found in a creek is too suspicious.
|
| |
The first three lps were on constant rotation for me in high school. RIP
|
| |
Agreed swipe
|
| |
Agreed as well. I read it was a pond, which is still suspect, either way.
|
| |
Fall of Ideals is still on rotation. RIP, man.
|
| |
"The cause of his death is currently unknown"...so drugs.
|
| |
"...so drugs."
accidental drowning, asshole.
|
| |
Really shitty news. RIP Oli.
|
| |
Could be drowning due to drugs or alcohol. I'm sure we'll hear more in the coming weeks
|
| |
No one is willingly taking a dip in a pond in October in Connecticut. Awful news tho. This Darkened Heart is such an awesome album.
|
| |
RIP
You were a legend.
|
| |
So this might be unusual but I just read a comment from this guy or girl "City of Firsts" on a site called Masslive, but I felt it important to share here because it helps celebrate, appreciate, and share the memory of an amazing guitar player...

"I took guitar lessons from Oli for a few years when I was a teenager, at the music shop in Agawam. I was never a very good player, but I sure was in awe of Oli. He was such an amazing musician with incredible talent and an excellent ear. I could bring in a CD and he would teach me any song I played for him, even if he had never before heard it. He taught me all the tools and building blocks to be a good player, and conveyed the information in a simple and easy to understand way. I had the privilege of hearing and watching him shred on the electric guitar at our lessons, but also got to hear him play classical pieces that he had composed, which were incredible, and all other kinds of music. He was always kind to me, and patient and just a great teacher. Super nice guy, humble and down to earth. I listened to some metal and saw All That Remains a few Sunday nights back at the Fat Cat, but his guitar playing that I got to see and hear in that tiny little lesson both will stay with me always, even though those lessons were 15-20 years ago. My condolences to his family, friends, band mates and fans. I’m very sorry to hear of Oli’s passing. "
