Arch Enemy Revisit Old Tunes 2007-07-30 by Foodforthegods | 20 Comments | Blabbermouth.net reports: Although ARCH ENEMY's new album, Rise Of The Tyrant, won't be released until September 25th, the band has already set their sights on returning to the studio. Guitarist Michael Amott spoke exclusively to BW&BK scribe Aaron Small and provided the following update:
“What we’d actually like to do is what TESTAMENT did with First Strike Still Deadly, where they re-recorded some of their older stuff. We had three albums (Black Earth, Stigmata, Burning Bridges) without Angela (Gossow, with Johan Liiva on vocals). It’d be cool to re-record some of those great songs and make a compilation. I think some of those songs are absolutely awesome! But we play them only in Japan really because those albums are known there. Those songs are part of our natural history as a band over there, whereas in Europe and North America, it all started with Wages Of Sin really. They’re almost like a forgotten chapter of our history. We’re definitely going to do this, revisiting that stuff. I think that’s going to be a very cool record. Sinking our teeth into those old songs with Angela, she brings a lot of fire in her vocals. It’s going to be a lot of fun. It’s a part of the plan. It will happen but we’re going to tour ‘til death now.”

SILVERWING!
| | | That's awesome! I can't wait to hear it!
| | | go for it
| | | Ok cool re-record old tunes yeah whatever Angela is fucking hot in that picture
| | | what the anthrax?
| | | I hated the old vocalist.
| | | arch enemy owns.
| | | I seriously doubt that would work out. Sure, Angela's vocals might be better, but they'd invariably end up changing stuff about those songs that should not be changed.
Their new album is promising, though. Very aggressive, and very meedly-meedly.
| | | This is absolutely the best news about Arch Enemy. Johan Liiva fucking sucked on their earlier stuff. Angela has such a better scream.
| | | This sounds awesome. Their first three albums were their three best. They better fucking record "The Immorta," "Pilgrim," "Sinister Mephisto," "Bridge of Destiny" "Bury Me an Angel," and "Dark Insanity."Those are the two best off each of the albums imo, with "The Immortal" being my favorie of their songs of all time, by far pretty much, its so goddamn insane.
Their newer albums, oddly tend to bore me, which is weird cuz the songs are a little shorter for the most part (well, compared to Stigmata at least) but they have written some really good songs on them. The first half of "Wages" was great, then it went downhill, and "Doomsday" started strong, had a boring middle, and ended strong. "Anthems" is the only album i don't wn by them, but i dont think it will be much better than the other Gossow albums, and definately wont be as good as their Liiva era albums.
| | | Bah.
Give me Johan Liiva any day. Angela is rubbish.
| | | Johan Liiva was (is) one of the worst vocalists in metal, what are you talking about? This Message Edited On 07.31.07
| | | Good. Their old vocalist was fucking horrible.
| | | Totally love Black Earth, is my favorite album by them. This should be interesting...
| | | theyre nothing special.
| | | they old vocalist wasnt that bad. But Angela is better. This is really good news cause they do play some older stuff live and it sounds sooooo great. Especilay songs like Bury Me An Angel.
| | | Although I'm normally against this sort of thing, I could see this turning out pretty nicely, actually. I rarely listen to the old AE material because I can't stand that Liiva guy.
| | | It would be amazing if they did this, hopefully changing nothing but the vocals. The music back then was very dark and heavy and Johan wasn't the best vocalist.
| | | I love Angela
| | | Do you retards only listen to the vocals??? The Liiva era owns anthems and doomsday. The musicianship in their old albums were way better and the guitar solos were timeless especially in silverwing, cosmic retribution, beast of man, fields of desolation etc. Thank god for AE-gossow-era masterpieces like wages and rise of the tyrant.
