So... any chance of a Pantera reunion is now gone. All these older bands that keep refusing to get together for a few final shows need to start paying attention. This shit doesn't last forever.

--A pantera reunion without dime would be like a Megadeth show with out dave--

If they had got Zack Wilde (or however his name is spelled), I think it could have had some legitimacy.

At that point can you honestly call it a reunion? That's only half the original band members.

It's tough, I guess. The legitimacy part, for me, comes from there being a connection between the guy that is gone and the guy filling in. If Dave from Megadeth died and James Hetfield and Kirk Hammet played a few shows with the other Dave and whoever is playing drums that week... that could be a legit show.

There's prob something in Dave's will that says this is not okay under any circumstances haha

I think the worst thing about this for me is that there was never any reconciliation between Vinnie and Phil after Pantera broke up. Whatever you think of either guys, the fact that peace was never made between both camps just makes it even sadder.

Blabbermouth has posted a ton of tweets from musicians, but nothing from Phil yet. I know he wanted to reconcile, so he's probably dealing with it personally and privately right now.

Phil Anselmo is probably damned if he talks about it, damned if he doesn't. If he talks about it he'll get criticised for acting all pally with someone he had a rather public feud with for years, if he stays silent people will ask why. But as others said, this does act as a wakeup call that the chance to bury the hatchet won't last forever. You never know, this might push Andreas/Paulo and the Cavalera brothers to actually talk to each other about ending their beef - a reunion is off the cards for sure but they're around the same age as the Pantera dudes now and this news might be a wakeup call.

Phil isn't very public anyway and doesn't really like social media it seems. He definitely doesn't trust the media. I don't think it has anything to do with him being afraid to say something. I think Phil is pretty private and since he's a really intense person we can pretty much guess he's not doing very well right now. I only hope he doesn't start using or go off the rails with alcohol.

Skid Row, System of a Down come to mind.

Their cynicism, as depicted by their written and oral statements from time to time, simply won’t get them anywhere.

Vinnie and Anselmo's relationship got more acrimonious when Vinnie indirectly blamed Philip for Dimebag's death, suggesting that some remarks the vocalist had made about Dimebag in print just weeks earlier might have incited Dimebag's killer.

If they were to frame it as reunion shows to raise money for some cause, I could see it working. If it turns out Vinnie died from drugs or some illness, they could just play shows to "raise awareness" for those issues, and play them in honor of Dime and Vinnie's memories. That's basically the only way I can see it working, though; they'd have to make the reunion not about the living members, but the passed ones.

He autographed a CD when they opened for Slayer back in 2015. Cool guy and local state hero. Huge RIP.

It's a shame he passed before he could've made amends with Phil, bc I think it would've happened eventually. Now those wounds will forever stay bleeding.

So much stuff coming out about this guy's personality now. He was a great guy, apparently, and people aren't just saying it like a lot of times after somebody passes. There are plenty of examples, like Randy from Lamb of God said that Vinnie once had a huge BBQ planned for the bands out by the tour buses or whatever but was shut down by a Fire Marshall and he was extremely bummed out about it. And that is a common theme in this guy's life (and dime's as well it seems -- they cared a lot about helping others and making them have a good time)

Most of people in this band seemed like pretty okay people except that nazi saluting skinhead. But also I would like to know what he actually said in print that could have spurred on the killer because context really matters here.

I was never really a big fan of Pantera but this guys drumming definitely always stood out, even in the shadow of the guitarwork.

Edit: I actually didn't know him and Dimebag were brothers. Damn. Those were some talented siblings.

In fact this guy even wrote a letter to the judge when Randy Blythe was on trial or imprisoned talking about stage security and his brother's death and putting in a good word for Randy. Did he have to do that? No. Was he selfish? Would a selfish person do that?
