New Chelsea Grin Vocalist/Song 2018-04-27 by franklinbumbleton | 45 Comments |
Chelsea Grin have announced that vocalist Alex Koehler has left the Band after focusing on sustaining his sobriety. The band have enlisted Tom Barber, vocalist of Lorna Shore, to join on Vocal duties with their new song "Dead Rose", taken from their upcoming album Eternal Nightmare.

The band also posted to Facebook:
"Shit-talkers, rejoice! There is a lot of news to be shared from the CG camp, much of it bittersweet. For some time now, our band has wandered through what felt like hell and back. Medical conditions, personal pressures, tour conflicts and more. It is not in our nature to let this get the best of us, so we always have and will carry on headstrong and determined.
Alex Koehler has opted to part ways with the band following his recent time spent in rehab and the life changes he’s made in newly found sobriety. We are all at a mutual understanding that the nomadic and trying nature of touring is much too volatile of an environment for a recovering alcoholic. He has made huge strides forward in shaping a new and positive lifestyle, and we will always do our part to support our friend and brother. We are still very close, of course, and it goes without saying that we wish him all the strength and willpower needed to continue his inspiring progress. We ask that all of you respectfully do the same for Alex.
Furthermore, last year Jacob Harmond parted ways with the band; you may have noticed via social media or on our most recent Never Say Die tour. Jacob recently had his second of two children, and has found his passion redirected toward family and personal goals. Again, his parting was carried out entirely amicably and with absolutely no hard feelings. As with Alex, we will forever support Jacob and his family, and will always remain close friends.
Surely this all comes as heavy news to our supporters and long time fans, but we want to confidently reassure that Chelsea Grin remains strong. During the recording process, we were faced with the challenge of pushing past obstacles to finish creating an album we were already so emotionally invested in. We had to weigh all options realistically, but abandoning our passion was never one. Our good friend and ally, Tom Barber, has stepped up to the plate to help us achieve a sound we had never imagined. His talent and drive allowed us a renewed energy, making the choice clear. Please provide Tom a warm welcome into the band, and saddle up for a darker, more aggressive sound than you’ve heard from us yet.
At this point, we are done cycling faces through the band for both your sakes and ours; we will be carrying on live as a four piece. After finding our strongest sound yet, we want to avoid confusion and a shift from the current creative focus, in addition to adding yet another face to a seemingly ever-changing lineup. We will absolutely be delivering the same crushing performance and presence as always.
All of that being said, we present to you Dead Rose, the first single off of our upcoming album, Eternal Nightmare. Welcome to a new era of Chelsea Grin.
Catch us all summer long on Warped Tour at the Monster Mutant Red Dawn stage performing both new and old material. We assure you that you won’t want to miss it."

Eternal Nightmare huh just like the Vio-Lence album.
The cover art off ''Evolve'' looks like some weird videogame character.

I can't fucking believe that tom left lorna shore for this heap of trash
|
| |
unless if you're deaf they are much better
|
| |
I don't want Chelsea Grin without Koehler tbh, even if they're last album was boring garbo
|
| |
Band has two sick EPs and four terrible fucking albums. This doesn't make any sort of difference for them. Lorna Shore blows too.
|
| |
Lorna kick ass. Hope Tom’s talents aren’t completely wasted at CG.
|
| |
I'm sure they will be
|
| |
"I think I'm pretty good at thinking I'm funny" - Cryptologous

"Don't act like lorna shore is any much better"
Lorna Shore is a fucking amazing band and if you could see through the filter of thembeing Death core then hopefully you could realize Flesh Coffin is an amazing Metal album
Anyways I've been a CG circlejerk ever since I could remember and along with any other skinny jean wearing kid would have to agree that Alex was the key to their sound, and even if Self Inflicted kinda maybe a poor album, it was still CG and Ashes proved CG could still make a great album despite Alex's wearing Vocals.
And as much as I respect Tom Barber as vocalist, leaving Lorna Shore doesn't sit right with me, he has such a unique sound that resonated with Lorna so incredibly well that putting him in (at least Modern) Chelsea Grin doesn't, again, sit right with me. Seriously I don't know how I would feel about Tommy wanting to "Publish this Dick", and while I am sure the lyrics will improve with Tom (just gonna pretend he didn't write Dead Roses), it won't feel like Chelsea Grin. Not saying that they (CG) would be especially Bad with Tom, because he is still an incredible vocalist with a not so bad band behind him, but the "sound" of Chelsea Grin has gone from Slow, Dark, High Shrieking Dxc to Technical Fast Paced Dxc, to then, well whatever Self Inflicted was and with the addition of Tom, that adds another major sound change and soon its gonna feel like going through a fucking BMTH discography. There is vocalists out their that could resonate with Alex better than Tom (Rheese Peters anyone?) and while Tom wasn't the worst choice, Lorna Shore is most definitely better than Modern Chelsea Grin, and easily one of the, if not best Dxc bands in the scene.
A Deathcore bands sound is 95% dependent on the vocalist. When Vocalists change, the bands sound will almost always take a shift in direction, and if this type of thing happens early on (Thy Art is Murder), then whatever, they didn't have a definitive sound back then, but Chelsea Grin is 4 Albums and 1 EP in a scene that they are very popular in. Just because Eddie Hermida was a beast in ASP, didn't mean he could just waltz on in SS and keep their sound. (Spoiler Alert He didn't) and now SS is a joke band in a joke genre. Now Suicide Silence is dead and ASP is MIA. Just Because Tom Barber was a beast in Lorna shore, didn't mean he can just waltz in on CG....you get the point.
I Love Tom, I Love Alex and I most definitely love Chelsea Grin, but CG has a plug that needs to be pulled and I wouldn't be surprised if the money from Rise Records was stopping them from doing that.
Rant Over. I like CG alot.

that was wayyyyyy too much thought given to discussing a band as bad as chelsea grin
|
| |
but I don't think they're bad
:o
|
| |
And like always it's pure shit.
|
| |
yikers then
|
| |
This band is still hands down the worst band I've ever seen live. Had no intention of seeing/watching them but trying to kill time for The Acacia Strain to go live and had time to kill. Acacia Strain is a guilty pleasure of mine and a big reason is they're great live.
|
| |
Yo was that tour in 2010? cause i saw them then with TAC too and it was the gayest tihng of all time
|
| |
I cant defend their live performance

|
| |
Jesus Christ and I thought they sounded like liquid horse shit on their albums.
|
| |
Lorna Shore better pick up someone sick. Tom is a great vocalist but he's too good for CG. Remember when how they wasted Jason Richardson?
|
| |
They didn't waste Jason. Evolve EP is dope. That dude just can't keep his ass in a band.
|
| |
That guitar at 1:17 and around 2 minutes was fun, and the vocalist sounds nice, but it wasn't that good
|
| |
Also yea Evolve is their best work by a long shot, and Ashes is pretty dope too. Their shit with Jason was great
|
| |
starting your core song with chugs and one long really loud deep scream in 2018 jesus christ
like, how can these fuckers still not write anything interesting?
|
| |
shoulda stuck with lorna shore considering they actually rule
has this bnd actually done anything worth hearing apart from Evolve? even that is fairly mediocre
|
| |
I thought this was really good. I was surprised especially because I saw their video for "don't ask don't tell" the other day and wanted to vomit.
|
| |
"Deathcore bands sound is 95% dependent on the vocalist."
Lol
|
| |
Why the fuck do all deathcore bands think they need to have 10 layers of vocals at any given time?
|
| |
lol of course sinternet likes deathcore
|
| |
cause they're all average screamers and would sound 10x worse if they didn't
|
| |
"Why the fuck do all deathcore bands think they need to have 10 layers of vocals at any given time?"
The same reasons why clean singers use harmonies.
|
| |
"Yo was that tour in 2010? cause i saw them then with TAC too and it was the gayest tihng of all time"
I think it might've been it was either 2010 or 2011.
|
| |
I like layered vocals when they aren't used every other line of a song
|
| |
I’m glad the comments here are nice and positive................
|
| |
There's rumors that CJ from Signs of the Swarm is gonna be the new vocalist for Lorna Shore
|
| |
I sure hope not, that is an awkward fit
|
| |
Not much better then old CG sadly . Band is just pretty bland , evolve was good if they cut a bunch of filer tracks off ashes to ashes it might not of been half bad but they are full of weak songs and albums overall.
|
| |
No one better think this guy is my alt chelsea grin is yhe worst band of all time that is objective fact
|
| |
Thx

Another new single: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CHnCvj4QUV8
|
| |
The vocals were great, rest was boring
|
| |
hmm
|
| |
As atrocious as that new song is at least it’s better than what their old vocalist is up to now

| |
Yea that was disgusting
|
| |
good concept, poor execution
|
| |
Yeah this is el terriblé. Lorna Shore is some hot garbage too.
