Definitely "experimental" by their standards. The more black metal moments are surprisingly good, but they're pretty much ruined by that whole "folk" or whatever shit they haphazardly throw in.

i like this track, guitar work is great, some of the orchestral and folk is a bit hammy and thrown in but eh, i expected that

I like the song. It's fun and theatrical in a good cheesy way. I'm getting some sweet Ghost-vibes from this. I believe the album will be great.

Those blaming Dimmu Borgir for not being "trve" black metal are such a pain. Nevertheless, their last truly great album was "Death Cult Armageddon". Since then, they have lost inspiration, although I have to say they still managed to write a few really cool songs, such as "The Serpentine Offering" or "Gateways". But I fear this album will be even worse than "Abrahadabra"

^I can respect that Clansman. I personally really liked Abrahadabra but I recognize that it's quite a diversion from Death Cult Armageddon. I don't see it as a loss of inspiration but more of a completely new direction for the band. That will naturally lead to disappointment from some. However, I found it refreshing and have nothing against the cheesy and perhaps more radio friendly version of the band.

This album will definitely be a listen until it grows, for me. I really respect them for opening the box up a little bit and trying new things. I don't hate this.

That one faster section was passable. The rest sounded like they just discovered 2004-era Cradle of Filth, and not in a good way.

We'll see what happens when the album comes out

Interdimensional Summit was fuckin horrible, but this track was actually a lot better than I was expecting, especially given some of the comments here. This is definitely some of the most inspired guitar work I've heard from this band in ages. The "tribal" shit really wasn't as heavy-handed as some people are making it out to be. Even Shag's vocals aren't that bad...I've always thought he was one of the worst vocalists in BM, but at least there's no stupid industrial/rave effects or any of that other crap they used to smear all over his vocal tracks here. Also, surprisingly, the video wasn't bad by Dimmu standards, even though Galder and Shagrath still can't help themselves and squeak in a few gay ass gesticulations here and there.
Really, the worst thing about this is the easily fixable things that Dimmu STILL insists on doing: Over-produced to death? Check. Retarded opera choirs that were already lame over ten years ago? Check. Dumb rock star theatrics? Check. It's like even when they're obviously trying to evolve past the goofy shit, they can't help themselves and it still finds it's way in.
Anyway, I will admit that it may just be that my expectations for this band have decreased to next to nothing, but I honestly think there is more good than bad here. I will reserve judgement until I hear the whole album, but from what I can tell it looks like they were at least TRYING to accomplish something formidable here.

I agree with your statement up to this point in time. I had to shut off the fairy metal that was Abrahadabra before I could even get half way through the album. Interdimensional Summit certainly didn't disappoint in terms of goofiness, either.

But, my comments were referring specifically to the song and video in this thread. To me it seems obvious that they were at least making an attempt at presenting something that could be taken more seriously with this one. It obviously has it's flaws, but overall I think this is actually a good track. If the rest of the album is more like this and less like Interdimensional Summit, then I would consider it a good first step towards improving the negative image this band has developed over the years.

goofy doesn't necessarily mean not good though. they're not mutually exclusive, and this video is just as goofy as the last video and for all of the same reasons. if you were expecting any differently then you should have left any expectations at the door.

track's decent and the album seems to have more promise than the last one but is likely to be a goofy black metal romp which honestly might just fit the bill for a specific mood if you're at all inclined.

on that note tho cheq the new Vargrav if you want new symph bm that's not dimmu.

Dark Fortress have already done this brand of "experimental post-black" 10 years ago, better too. This is a yawnfest.
