R.I.P. Allan Holdsworth 2017-04-17 by ZIG | 23 Comments | British guitar genius Allan Holdsworth died on Sunday (16), at age 70. The information was confirmed by the musician's daughter, Louise, through her Facebook account. The causes of death were not revealed.
"It is with a heavy heart that we inform everyone of the death of our beloved father. We ask for privacy and time so that we can overcome the loss of our father, grandfather, friend and genius of music," Louise Holdsworth wrote.
Active since the 1970s, Holdsworth played in bands like Yes, Soft Machine and Tempest. His guitar skills influenced musicians like Eddie Van Halen, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Joe Petrucci, Yngwie Malmsteen, and Frank Zappa.

One of the most talented guitarists ever. RIP Mr. Holdsworth.
| | | Love his work. Was sad to see that he passed away.
| | | Another legend from the 70's that dies. Another very sad notice. I always admired his guitar style. We'll never forget you, pal. RIP hard.
| | | RIP
| | | What.. no way.
R.I.P. hard.

| | | Metal is dying
| | | rip, pretty much the best guitarist of all time
| | | 2017 not going much better than 2016.
Damn man RIP
| | | Will jam material of his solo career and U.K. as well. The man had a singuliar way to play guitar. We could recognize his style among a big amount of guitarists. Jazz rock is losing a legend.
RIP mr Holdsworth.
| | | his solo material isn't as good as Enigmatic Ocean, One of a Kind or Believe It but still worth jamming
| | | Enigmatic Ocean is a good call. I think I prefer Feels Good To Me over One of a Kind.
| | | RIP, another guitar legend passed away...
| | | Should add he played on Soft Machine's Bundles album
| | | Amazing player. What a loss.
| | | He had instantly recognizable sound, tone and phrasing, and often sounded otherworldly. He played some of the most memorable and technically challenging material ever played by a guitarist and many of today's virtuosos owe him a lot.
| | | Bundles is sick, doesn't sound much like the other stuff he's in iirc
| | | Holy fuck this guy was one of the greatest ever. RIP.
| | | Welp, at least we still have Fredrik Thordendal
| | | RIP
| | | His influence is simply immeasurable. RIP.
| | | The players' player...
| | | RIP
