John Wetton, the bassist and frontman for Asia as well as a former member of King Crimson and U.K., has died at the age of 67 after a battle with cancer.

Carl Palmer, previous drummer for Asia said "With the passing of my good friend and musical
collaborator, John Wetton, the world loses yet another musical giant” about the passing.

No no no no no
I just woke up : (

I love his voice, it's the main reason I kept giving chances to Asia and I was rewarded with the XXX album, which I consider excellent and a true diamond in the waste. Genuinely bummed I don't have an Asia 2017 to wait for, both for laughs and for the nostalgic pleasure of his voice.

RIP

I woke in this morning and one of the first things I saw here was this terrible announce. It seems that the death of the great artists continue in 2017.
Wetton always was one of my favourite prog artists as a vocalist and bassist. He was one of my favourites in both cases. He was member of two of my favourite bands, King Crimson and U.K., and participated in one of the best prog albums ever, "Red". Besides that, he was one of the founders of Asia and particpated in an innumerable projects with many other artists. A brilliant musical career, indeed.

I really miss you John, we all do. RIP hard.

the "heroes" of the 60s-70s are unfortunately going to continue to die. john wetton was only 67, which is an age too early to die.

Jamming UK in his honour atm. His voice on their two albums is so precise. Wetton has participated in numerous Steve Hackett albums, in everything Asia have done, and of course was on board for King Crimson's Larks' Tongues in Aspic, Starless and Bible Black and Red. So yes, he contributed a lot to progressive rock. He was an innovative bass player and a gifted singer. You are sorely missed, John. - RIP

Well the Asia albums from 1992 to 2004 are fronted by John Payne, but imo they are all forgettable save for one surprisingly strong release (Silent Nation). Safe to say that the "real" Asia is the Wetton-fronted one, which was working on a new album likely aimed at a 2017 release. The band is still alive and will keep going on, it seems. This gives the haters another reason to hate, and it's understandable. They better publish something good.

Personally, this is what I'm jamming for him: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ulFYJB_ok0

We've been getting a stream of good news regarding Wetton's health, this came out of the blue

Nice song!...Thanks for these precisions, Sab. I looked at their discog too quickly, and I only know well the first album. I might try to change that.

''hope my comment didn't come off as annoying.''

At the contrary, it was constructive. Gonna try ''Silent Nation'' sometime. For now I'm into XXX lol. Gonna read your actual review soon.
