I would have loved this 20 years ago.
| |
Dust bunnies roll and crickets chirp.
| |
This is actually pretty awesome. It's been so long since Jonathan Davis did scatting.
| |
Well color me hyped.
| |
Well color me hyped [2]
| |
A lot better than I was expecting
| |
Bring back Kornstep!
| |
Lol noooo
| |
The very definition of "eh", with a slightly bitter aftertaste that's so characteristical of a band that once was one of your favourites but has since fallen victim to safe playing (also you're not 14 anymore).
| |
Hyped
| |
I don't see how The Path Of Totality was safe playing but k.
| |
Thankfully we have users like Captain around to tell us how we all feel
| |
"Path" was actually quite ballsy an idea but fell short of any lasting interest 'cause of the band swerving around the same bloody song structure at the same bloody tempo for 11 (and 2 bonus) very similar tracks
| |
The Serenity of Suffering
sounds like a eyehategod album
| |
Very good song! Looking around everywhere and reading comments on YT it seems like a ton of others love it and are hyped! It's their worst nightmare for people who hate Korn!
| |
First all the modern post-hardcore bands start ripping off Linkin park and Slipknot, and now Korn is releasing something half-decent? Nu-metal is back in style and we've come full circle. I scatting part was actually really awesome, the other parts were just meh. I've never been a big fan of these guys, but I might check this out.
| |
Pretty cool honestly, just nothing mind-blowing.
| |
Pretty good, dug that scat part.
| |
still awful sorry
| |
Damn, this is a great song
| |
Laughed at the album cover, but I love me some Korn, lets go bitches
| |
This is suprisingly good.
| |
solid
| |
this is bland but solid for them, cool to see him scatting again even if it wasn't as good as his older ones
| |
Gonna be a lot of negativity about this but I for one still love me some Korn
| |
Yeah this is really really good, I'm stoked. New album will rule if it's like this.
| |
Could have gone on Untouchables, so basically it's 'produced to within an inch of its life trash' with Jonny D clean singing way too much, vocal melodies are awful
The scat section is just fan service stoopidity
| |
l m a o
| |
the scat part kind of makes me wish more bands dig rhythmically interesting things with their screams
| |
I haven't liked anything from Korn in a long time, but this is surprisingly pretty good for them. Sounds like something they would have released back in their prime. I had no interest in their new album at all before hearing this song, but now I am curious to hear the rest.
| |
It's like vocal djent!
| |
The song is pretty good, especially the scatting. I'll most likely check the album out but that cover art is horrendous.
| |
They're too old to have this much angst. All joking aside it's awesome to see them recover their mojo even if I didn't really like the song (that scatting was badass tho, maybe it'll grow on me more)
| |
just a reminder that these dudes are all in like their 40's
| |
You're the detective this city needs
| |
He's the one this city deserves
but not the one it needs right now
| |
but do we deserve him?
| |
nice shitposts
| |
A little disappointing.
| |
Hyped, sounds like Untouchables, which was more or less their last good album
| |
It's pretty good.
| |
i mean, at least it's a somewhat upturn in quality for them
| |
Well I liked the intro...then a riff we heard a 1000 times before happened.
| |
At 2:45 sounds like he says "I will fucking pull your dick off"
| |
Dude when you're scattin' you can say anything
| |
Not bad actually.
| |
The paradigm shift was actually good.
| |
both 13 and 24 year old me is stoked m/
| |
FUCK YEAHHHH
| |
lol
| |
Considering it's a Korn song coming out in 2016 this is actually pretty decent.
| |
Yeah it's alright
| |
I WOULD'NT BE ANGRY IF YOU'D JUST FUCKING CRY
| |
intro is just "board up the house" by genghis tron
| |
Haha not bad actually.
| |
Chorus was average but the rest of the song is pretty awesome.
| |
"The Serenity of Suffering
sounds like a eyehategod album"
Mate it's literally what I was gonna call my old uni band about 3 years ago, word for word. Korn stole it somehow.
| |
sue 'em
| |
Nah I didn't really like the name anyway. Definitely can't use it anymore as people will just think I named it after the Korn album when I came up with it first.
I WAS FIRST, GOD DAMN YOU
| |
Glad people are mostly positive about this track, it's exaclty the kind of sound I was hoping they'd reach. Old Korn, but not some forced Remember Who You Are stuff.
| |
It always feels a bit insincere when Korn does the "going back to their roots" thing, and that's unfortunate because I sort of feel the same way when they step out of their comfort zone too.
This isn't terrible though. Decent groove. It doesn't sound like JD's trying that hard to fake feelings of pain and angst that no longer exist. I welcome the scatting, even though the cadence was almost identical to that of Twist. Most importantly, I can listen to this without feeling embarrassed for myself, and them.
| |
Track was alright, I'll keep my eye on this album.
| |
Sounds like classic Korn. Which is a good thing.
| |
very cathcy and fun. looks like reunion will produce another "original korn" album
| |
I mean it's alright but where's the dubstep?
| |
14 year old me would have cum buckets all over the computer screen. Not doing anything for 26 year old me though. Consider me uncummed.
| |
Cool video and song.
| |
Yall want a single? Say fuck that.
| |
Fuuk dat fuk dat
| |
Oh hey, a Take a Look in the Mirror B-Side
| |
sounds like something from issues but ok
| |
No one can deny this is better than it has any right to be
| |
Damn I remember when I used to adore Korn. Very much grown out of them and the fact that Jonathan Davis still writes lyrics like he's in high school is embarrassingly self-parody, but I couldn't find myself hating this song for some reason.
| |
I'm really happy that Brian Welch remained in the band after The Paradigm Shift, I was expecting him to just come back for one album.
This song sounds like they travelled back in time and asked their younger selves to quickly write them a little something during the sessions for Issues.
| |
The screaming reminds me of TALITM, which gives me the feel that this is the rightful successor to that album. It then acts as a natural continuation with the heavier moments and greater use of screaming than was heard on the previous 5 albums, and bypasses all post-Head failed experiments such as writing with The Matrix, going industrial and trying dubstep. It recaptures that sound of the first 5 albums with some of the better modern Korn aspects slotted in.
| |
Also is that doll in the artwork supposed to be the one from Issues, 20 years on?
| |
Yeah I believe so. Not a big fan of the art personally but it looks natural with the rest of their discogs art so I won't complaint too much.
| |
I think for their 2018/19 album when it's 20 years of Issues, they should have another artwork competition for it like they did with Issues, then release different versions with the top 3 or 4 entries.
| |
I like this new song. Korn is a million times more relevant than Tool.
| |
What's Tool ?
| |
That would be cool
| |
"I like this new song. Korn is a million times more relevant than Tool."
uhhh
| |
excuse me
| |
lol
| |
TBF that's not hard when you've released 5 albums since Tool last released one.
| |
Not bad. Waaaay more tolerable than the last like 50 songs they've written.
| |
fuck yeah Chibs 4 lyf
| |
Fuck yeah this actually rocks pretty nice. Feel Like im 6 again discovering Hybrid theory and follow the leader
| |
Never thought I'd enjoy a new Korn song in this day and age, but color me surprised. That scatting is the the most epic Davis has done in years.
| |
The verses are great, but dunno bout the chorus.
| |
chorus is standard Korn, verses and scatting are sweet though
| |
Well the closest we've gotten to the "classic" Korn sound has been some band called Wicked Playground which seemed to be trying everything in their power to BE Korn: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VyeycXD5tOY just listen to this song.
| |
Lol wow
| |
If you want more Korn rip-off's there's a Russian band called Flymore that sound a lot like them, the vocalist is actually really similar to Jon too.
Listening to that Wicked Playground track, it's pretty average tbh.
| |
Haha that sounds exactly like Korn.
| |
the dude even had the dreads and weird moustache of Jonathan Davis at one point iirc. Must've started life as a Korn tribute band then decided to write their own material. One of their songs sounds straight up Static-X too.
| |
Seems to be working for them though, turns out they're opening for Otep soon: https://www.facebook.com/wickedplayground/photos/a.234838020052955.1073741827.234827176720706/566140996922654/?type=1&theater
| |
this is surprisingly not awful
| |
J Davis, the high-school lyrics-writing Alex Jones of mainstream metal.
| |
Song ain't bad, but it sounds like something they chucked out back in their Untouchables/Mirror days. That drum poundage sounds like a Here to Stay rip off.
| |
