R.I.P. Maurice White 2016-02-04 by ShakeSoda | 18 Comments | Maurice White, founder and former bandleader of R&B band Earth, Wind & Fire, has passed away at the age of 74 after a long battle with Parkinson's disease. Maurice's younger brother, Verdine, shared the news on Facebook. He wrote:
My brother, hero and best friend Maurice White passed away peacefully last night in his sleep. While the world has lost another great musician and legend, our family asks that our privacy is respected as we start what will be a very difficult and life changing transition in our lives. Thank you for your prayers and well wishes.

People also need to knock it off with this whole "2016 is the year of artists dying". Music artists pass away every year, and while this year is definitely seeing a higher death toll than usual, I think what we're seeing here on Sputnik is an ever-cascading trend of users posting about artist deaths because it's been such a big thing lately. It's likely that more people on this site are posting this kind of news article than before, not necessarily that more artists are dying than usual...is all I'm saying.

Agreed man. I get why people are saying things like that, but I think it's kind of insincere. The point of the matter is, a lot of these musicians that were super popular back in the day and influential are getting old. Shocking, right? As for why I felt the need to post about it, I'm just a huge fan of the man and the music he wrote; I've been listening to E, W & F since I was a baby.

@ShakeSoda: I'm not saying we should stop posting these kinds of articles. If you're a fan of the band and they meant a lot, by all means. I would do the same for any of my favourites. I just keep reading the same stuff posted about 2016 being a horrible year for this kind of stuff and I just think that: "yeah...if you spend most of your time on Sputnik you would think that based on what we've seen posted lately and its such a small sample size to base that opinion off of". Sorry if it came off as insincere.
