Best thing since Planetary Duality isn't really saying anything considering they've only released one mediocre sterile techwank bullshit album in between.

Get hype, looks like this is going to be slightly less mediocre sterile techwank bullshit.

I submitted a news story for this a week ago. I guess sputnik just doesn't like me.
Anyway it doesn't matter.

I love the track.

At least this is just bland and sterile as opposed to blatantly plagiarized.

How can someone think this production is good? Those harsh vocals are fucking terrible, the cleans are the only thing that make this interesting.
Fuck tech death.

You're right, he would be great in a cover band, playing solos till he drops from people who've actually proved themselves capable of writing an interesting song.

Looking at how god awful the production was on Autotheism, I think you guys are being way too hard on this. Overall, I liked the song's second half a lot, but nothing really blew me away.

i get what people are saying about the production, but i don't see how you can deny the songwriting chops here. and Planetary Duality is a damn solid album

The song isn't their best but I'm glad they're going back to the Planetary Duality sound. Autotheism was good but had a few cringe-inducing parts that sorta turned me away from the album.

Production is sub par but at least it's not as shotty and all over the place as Autotheism was. That record in every way was just a complete let down. Coming off of something as solid as PD and going into that was really a shame. I know Keene is pretty much the main songwriter but maybe having Demon Carcass and Brandon back has instilled some creative juices to allow him to produce a record that isn't a steaming pile of shit like the previous one was.

Sitting here reading through like, Damn...not a lot of love for that album. Good to see a different opinion. I jammed the hell out of it and really loved that dude's cleans. Shame they won't have him anymore. Planetary Duality was pretty sweet but idk why all the flack for Autotheism. *shrugs*

This will still be cool and then I'll jam all of their albums and still really enjoy it.

I don't hear anything wrong with the production at all. Never been into this band but this track is pretty awesome. May have to give planetary duality another look.

I like Planetary Duality but this sounds like a PD B-side. Well executed, but not memorable. The riff sounds a little recycled.

Fine fine, you win. I just think of singles as a radio promotion or store promotion, which usually is the very last thing death metal bands do. But whatever.

I get it dude. A single just sounds like a pop thing to do. Like "oh hay check out the new death metal single coming to a Hot Topic near youuu.." Bands have to get there stuff out there somehow though.

What's with the hate for the track? Just wondering. Do those that dislike that actually dig Planetary Duality and think that's way better than this or never liked the band.

And what are tech death bands you find better than Faceless.

I agree that Anata and Gorod are definitely better. Those groups are legendary IMO. Decapitated's old stuff is cool. (to sound cliche).

I feel like The Faceless have their own interesting niche. The songwriting is suspect somewhat but at the same time I enjoy the eclectic nature. This album will decide a lot.

How do you think they compare with bands like Spawn of Possession, Obscura, and Beyond Creation?

And anyone heard the new Ouroboros yet? It's pretty cool more harmonically focused (like taking from symphonic black metal somewhat imo), but I haven't heard their first album yet which some say is better.

Dmax: all those bands tend to write samey stuff. If you like hearing ppl do crazy tech stuff without any real context then tech death is for u.
Decapitated have always been a band I have enjoyed tho, carnival is forever is fucking fantastic. Like a techy meshuggah with Jeff Loomis tones.

I really want to like this. I'm also just excited to see SOMETHING new by these guys.

But the production is shit and this sounds like a bunch of recycled elements from PD. The songwriting is very...loose. Unfocused.

They're talented, but they really need to get someone to help them in the songwriting process and give it some guidance. And to mix it again.

I really don't like tech death, but these guys have had a few good songs over the years. I actually dug the last album, really don't understand why it gets so much crap. But this...this is awful. It doesn't sound like The Faceless, it sounds like some random local "tech death" band that gets thrown on as an opener for some touring band nobody cares about.
