What a fun bunch of dudes.
I dig the hell out of the snippets.
|
| |
It's probably one of the more poppier songs they have done...but man is it catchy and sounds fun as
hell.
|
| |
holy shit can't wait
|
| |
"trying to have the album come to me in my dreams" you heard it here first, mastodon are a bunch of pseudo intellectuals
|
| |
Sounds cool, will check the album when it's out
|
| |
I sort of cringed at that line but I knew what he meant, so all is forgiven
|
| |
Holy shit I was not expecting that...Brann's got some pipes
goddamn I can't wait to hear the full song
|
| |
What a bunch of fun guys, song snippets sound great
|
| |
actually didn't sound too bad, like hunter crap but better
|
| |
I'm looking forward to this album.
|
| |
nice clip and vocals by brann
|
| |
I'm so looking forward to this. Crack The Skye turned me on hard to Mastodon and The Hunter only re-enforced it.
P.S.- I do own Blood Mountain but I haven't really listened to in depth yet.
|
| |
gonna rule so hard
|
| |
Did not realise how good a singer Brann is until that clip.
wow
|
| |
Snippet sounded a little too poppy for me, but Chimes At Midnight is fucking awesome so I still have faith that the new one will be good.
|
| |
hopes better than hunter
|
| |
Damn, sounds fucking spectacular!
|
| |
crack the skye was great
|
| |
oh damn that Brann singing bit in the end! That sounded good. Poppy vocals but very classic technical mastodon instrumentation circa Blood Mountain in my opinion.
|
| |
Will be awesome. I love everything they've done. The Hunter wasn't my favorite from them, but it was still amazing.
|
| |
Blood Mountain was probably their best for me. It was the album that got me into them, for most it tends to be leviathan.
Blood Mountain was their most spazzy release but CTS they really got the idea of melody.
|
| |
Damn, Brann got pipes!!!
|
| |
Crack the Skye was complete shit
|
| |
Has some of Troys best bass tones and playing on it.
Still it hasn't kept me entertained after time. I feel like I overplayed when I first heard it.
|
| |
I've tried to listen to crack the skye but cant get into anything other than oblivion
where as IMO theres not a bad song on The Hunter, I think once more round the sun will be more like the Hunter than CTS. Brann does some awesome vocals on dry bone valley as well. Im stoked on the album first one ive ever pre ordered.
|
| |
Brann is amazing.
|
| |
I love all this argument over which album is the best/favorite. Really speaks to how Mastodon keeps up the quality while changing their sound every release.
|
| |
Looking forward to hear this album.
|
| |
Isn't the trailer supposed to come before they release full tracks?
|
| |
"Crack the Skye was complete shit"
your objective opinion on the matter is much appreciated.

this is embarrassing

Mastodon was one of my favorite bands from about 2003 until 2007ish, Blood Mountain really grew off after about 6-12 months and I just got into other styles of music. Crack the Skye just reinforced that felling, the overt retro-prog of that album turned me off at the time (I've since come to appreciate it a bit more). Hunter really brought me back into the fold.
They were great when they were doing really manly sludge (and Remission/Leviathan is still my favorite incarnation of the band's sound), but man they really pull off the mainstreamish, traditional, almost "fun" heavy metal sound better than any other band today. They're the only band I know of that's capable of stepping up and taking Metallica's 80s and early 90s throne as the ones
that bring metal to the masses with integrity.
My take on the snippets (and what else I've heard from the new one) so far: it sounds awesome. A refining and enhancing on what they brought to the table with Hunter. Can't wait.

Brann bringing the Oz
|
| |
gonna tread lightly with this one.
|
| |
Nah man this thing's gonna be the motherload.
|
| |
oh it'll be a load all right
|
| |
As long as it isn't a ReLoad [insert selected Mastodon-is-the-new-Metallica quote here]
|
| |
Any guesses as to which song that was going by the song titles?
|
| |
motherload
