2013-04-11 by JazzHands333 | 41 Comments
The final album from New York hip-hop collective Wu-Tang Clan is reported to be released in July 2013, under the name A Better Tomorrow. This follows the claims of a concluding chapter to the Wu-Tang saga from assorted members. Little else is known at this time.

The stories about this album are all over the place. Every member says something different about whether or not it's even happening.

Raekwon and Ghostface are still pretty good.

GZA should be able to get his shit together for this, but it's questionable.

Method Man and RZA have totally fallen off. Inspectah Deck and U-God were always weak links, and I'm sure they'll continue that trend.

Two moderately strong pieces, a question mark, and four serious handicaps. I would be amazed if this turns out to be any good.

Inspectah Deck has so many classic verses on 36 Chambers, I'd hardly say he's a weak link

Deck is amazing on 36 chambers seriously. Even on the second album.

No, no, no. I didn't mean on 36 Chambers. I was replying to oltna's comment about their solo output. I don't think that anyone stood out as a weak link on 36 Chambers, that's why it's 36 Chambers - it's the most consistent and organic group hiphop album ever.

I hadn't heard about Czarface, though. Checking it now.

Meth has always been weak solo but when he makes a guest appearance he steals the show.

Meth wasn't always weak solo. Tical is real decent. Wu-Tang's first round of albums delivered, as a group and solo. They've been struggling to recapture the spirit of the golden days ever since. Except for Ghostface, GZA, and Raekwon. But, honestly, GZA really never came close to putting out something like Liquid Swords again. Ghostface and Raekwon both matched their solo debuts later in their careers.

dude Deck rules, solo and otherwise

probably my 4th or 5th favorite member, but on their group stuff he might be in the top 3

GZA, Raekwon, Ghostface, Masta Killa, ODB, Method Man, RZA, Inspectah Deck, U-God imo

I forgot about Masta Killa earlier. His first two albums were really good.

idk I think Uncontrolled Substance is better than anything Masta Killa has released (and it's better than most of the stuff Method Man and ODB put out)

Uncontrolled is definitely a solid (read: 3.5) album, but it's his only decent album. Masta Killa had two really decent albums though - No Said Date (4.25) and Made in Brooklyn (3.5). Tical is a 4. But, Inspectah Deck might trump ODB and RZA. Return to the 36 Chambers is a light 3.5 for me and RZA's best solo work was the Ghost Dog ST which isn't very impressive anyways.

I'm going to listen to Czarface and Uncontrolled Substance tomorrow or the next day though, just to make sure that I didn't overlook him in some way. I haven't listened to any of these albums other than Cuban Linx and Liquid Swords in a few years, so my memory might not be as sharp as it should be.

No Said Date really didn't do it for you?

I liked Man With The Iron Fists quite a bit. It was cheesy as hell and parts of it were bad but it was a light, fun movie IMO.

RZA's solo stuff is underrated though, and I think a lot of people overlook 6 Feet Deep. The Man With The Iron Fists soundtrack was pretty awesome, and his Bobby Digital stuff scores points because it's just supposed to be fun goofy hip-hop and succeeds. That stuff was never intended to be classic wu. Digi Snacks was pretty bad, but RZA's guest spots are almost always welcome additions to whatever track he's on. I find his delivery to be the most striking of the clan besides ODB's.

Gza is still my favorite.. if anything (in regards to his solo career), his production is just lacking. He desperately needs his cousin RZA in order to stay relevant.
