Well, when you buy stocks of apple before other people, then sell them at a profit, that's okay right? this is the same thing as investing your money. if you have the money to invest up front, and it is legal to do, then there is no reason why this is a problem. I agree that the government should regulate media and entertainment specifically (ie, scalping), but that's pretty much the antithesis of US economics. So since I can (and in this scenario do not like the product), I will. Especially since I know this will be selling for a lot of money soon enough. You can very well do it too.

I don't see a problem with it, as long as you aren't raping the person buying it. If you sell it for a small profit, say you sell a $20 record for $35, I don't see the issue with that. Ultimately, the buyer quite clearly wanted it badly enough to pay the extra bit. Now if you're selling that record for $100 because lol so rare, that's different. But at the end of the day, if the buyer wants it badly enough, he'll pay the extra money. Might as well make some cash off it.

also - the reason they want it to be a collector's item is for popularity, mystique, and the highest profit ratio they likely calculated for what amount of money they wanted to put into it. $200 per unit at qty 500 is probably close to the amount they could even sell at that price. i think it would be tough to sell out immediately for even qty 1000 at that pricing. higher profit margins on lesser amounts of work = most favorable scenario
