Timbaland Denies Plagiarism 2007-02-09 by Dave de Sylvia EMERITUS | 5 Comments | Hip hop producer Timbaland has hit back at little-known Finnish DJ Janne Sunni, who last month accused the American of using an unauthorised sample of one of his compositions in two recent productions.
Sunni, also known as Tempest, alleges that Timbaland passed off several elements from his composition 'Acidjazzed Evening' as his own in Nelly Furtado's 'Do It' (2006) and a commercial ringtone 'Block Party.' A comparison of the tracks can be seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M4KX7SkDe4Q
Sunni claims that Tim illegally sampled a sanctioned remix of the song, produced for a Commodore 64 music database, while Timbaland claims to have taken the sample from a computer game, adding that it's impossible to "know what's public domain and what's not"
Sunni has been pursuing legal avenues for some time, however Timbaland's label Universal Music were on hand to deal a healthy dose of reality to the DJ: "In case that the artist decides to pursue the matter further, it's on him to go to America and confront them with the local use of law. It will require a considerable amount of faith and, of course, money."
And, just in case the message hadn't hit home, Tim weighed in with an incomprehensible rant: "I don't know him from a can of paint. I'm 15 years deep. That's how you attack a king? You attack moi? Come on, man. "You got to come correct. You the laughing stock. People are like, 'You can't be serious.'"
Allegations that Sunni stole sections of Tim's sentences in retaliation for the alleged plagiarism are unfounded and should not be reported by anyone.

| | | wow AMAZING! A hip-hop producer actuall SAMPLED A TRACK!!!
GROUNDBREAKING!!
Oh the DRAMA!
Please every computer nerd clown is out there throwing their hands up over this garbage.
Look hip-hop is all about sampling. It's not a question of Timbaland using the sample in his beat, who cares, he SAMPLED IT...he never claims that he wrote it himself.
So the REAL issue is that he didnt report it to the label. And lets remember this as well, that its the LABEL that ows the originally sampled artist the money... not timbaland.
The label just needs to pay the dude and let it be. Once he's paid, thje little piss ant computer nerd who is throwing a fit because tim SAMPLED HIS TRACK will shut his hole.
