New Of Montreal track/album

2012-09-13 by Julianna Reed EMERITUS | 19 Comments
Quirky indie group Of Montreal have released a rare song that's just now seeing the light of day. "Our Love is Senile" features bouncy basslines that wouldn't be out of place on False Priest, and will be released on October 23, on a compilation of rare tracks that the group's releasing. The album will be titled Daughter of Cloud, and has pretty sweet artwork (as expected.)

The track's more boring than I was hoping, but then again, maybe there's a reason it's a rarity...

This was announced about a week ago and I've already listened to it thirty times, duh.

Our Love is Senile is one of the less exciting tracks on the album, though it's seemingly the only Hissing Fauna B-Side present (aside from the ones that were previously released in other formats).

Album is still a 5/5

Better songs to check out:
Obviousatonicnuncio (lays some of the groundwork for his style on Paralytic Stalks)
Hindlopp Stat (unlike anything Kevin has ever done)
Jan Doesn't Like It or Georgie's Lament (If you love Skeletal Lamping)
Noir Blues to Tinnitus (one of the most ambient tracks Kevin's ever writ)
Sails, Hermaphroditic (pure fun)

@mindleviticus: Kevin will never return to a sound he has already explored. Or at least he stated he never intends to. He just wants to keep pushing his own musical exploits as far as he can, and that does not mean returning to a place he's already been.

Usually he releases a B-side compilation when he prepares to drastically alter his sound. With the exit of K Ishibashi, he might be switching to entirely new territory like he did with SPITA and Hissing Fauna, not that K had much input in the songwriting, but he did do a lot in their live show and the violins were very present on Paralytic Stalks and thecontrollersphere.

This is probably my least favourite group from the elephant 6, but I do enjoy some of their stuff. Will check this out.

Just as a note, even though it comes out the 23rd of October, you get an Instant MP3 download when you pre-order it from Polyvinyl Records.

To be fair, Kevin (writer of all of Montreal songs) was never a prominent member of E6. Derek Almstead (Elf Power) was the band's main affiliation with the collective.

Also, speaking of Elephant 6, The Music Tapes (Julian Koster of Neutral Milk Hotel) recently released their new album: Mary's Voice. It's really good and will definitely appeal to fans of NMH.

reminds me of the stuff the weird kids in high school would draw, except in color

Whenever I see the words "Of Montreal" at first glance I think it says "Of Machines" and I get excited. Then I get sad...

That could be avoided if websites properly uncapitalized the 'o' in of Montreal.

What's funny about someone loving something do much that they orgasm at a mention? I hope you have a band you love as much as I love oM cause it's a great feeling; specially cause oM releases something new every single year
