It's close at least. Man, I'm totally entranced by this record!

Too bad it's only available in a vinyl boxset...

Niiice. Can't listen now but I've been pretty excited to see how this turns out. Haven't been too crazy about DMZ's latest stuff but I'm expecting this to be good (because Mala still is).

Hey TM, did you already check out Blawan's latest? It's really rad, as usual.

New Blawan is a mild disappointment

Blawan's latest is nothing groundbreaking, but it's still a very nice collection of tunes. His percussion is wonderful as usual.

This on the other hand is just pure bliss.

Blawan is one of the best producers around these days. His percussion sounds are practically unrivaled.

I agree with clercqie, I mean it's maybe not "unrivaled", but it consistently either hits harder or is more unique than what the majority of other producers are doing. I haven't listened to his latest EP yet so I can't make a statement on that, but "Why They Hide Their Bodies..." I know is sick.

I don't necessarily think he's in another league generally than his fellow producers, but a lot of other producers in the same genres rely a lot more on melody so they don't really need to match his percussion, but that's kind of what makes him unique. I think even when he isn't at his peak, his stuff is always interesting to listen to.

Some of what he's done is kind of undeniably impressive though - Getting Me Down, What You Do With What You Have, etc.

But whatever, this isn't a Blawan thread here, it's about Mala's album.

Yeah agreed. My word choices aren't always the best, but what can you do?

And this album is seriously blowing my mind the more I listen to it. Instant genre classic if I ever heard one.

I owe it more listens, but so far - not so much for me. I'm thinking 3.5, with admittedly a good chance of growing. I just gave it one quick listen so it's not really definitive, and I mean it's good stuff, but I don't really see what elevates this beyond just good. Definitely satisfied with the release and all, but not thinking it's a modern classic or anything like that.

Still, leagues beyond anything Coki's done in years.
