There are a lot of variables when it comes to recording an album. One could easily spend $45,000 recording no problem. I like the name of the band and the album and all of you sound terrible!

The budget is so high because the album is going to be released as a wearable latex mask, with a usb tooth that contains the music. Also, the pledges were in increments, and the people who pledged are guaranteed said album/mask. Anyway, band is fucking awesome. Can't wait for this album.

ok, i know you can end up blowing that much to do a recording, but there's something about bands asking for that much money on sites like kickstarter that seems suspect to me. it's not even about whether they need to spend all that on the recording process or not.
i can understand asking for like $5000 from your fans or something if you're trying to self release, but it kind of seems like the dudes were just like "fuck it, we know these idiots will throw their money at us so why not?" maybe i'm being a little unreasonable, but i have my doubts that these guys really made much of a concerted effort to get that much money before digging in their fans' pockets. but obviously they ate that shit up right quick.

For all the people questioning the dollar amount - think of it like a pre-order that cuts out the
middle man. I have no issue with money going directly to the artist, especially an artist like
Tobacco/BMSR.
Plus the pledge rewards are pretty sweet. If I wasn't so broke I'd totally get the mask.
