"Lupe Fiasco's Pathway of Redemption version 2.0 Part I of V ...the prequel."

^^^LOL

To explain Lupe's album title, though: it's the first part of a planned double album, like 'Mezmerize' is to 'Hypnotized'. And probably a continuation of the 'Food & Liquor'/'The Cool' storyline.

If the rest of the album is this good, it'll be on my year end list for sure. Between this, Killer Mike and Nas, this is shaping up to be a good damn year for hip-hop.

Pete Rock ain't too happy about the use of that beat, though, from what I've read.

It's a good song besides that album title, sounds like older Lupe which is fine by me.

That is one ballsy album title.

First Food was fantastic, this sounds like it will be a worthy continuation.

The original Food and Liquor was amazing, so I'm hoping this is too.

Good stuff, though that's mainly for the beat. Really, really lazy production though, ripping one of the most famous beats in hip hop.

Tom Scott's cover of Jefferson Airplane's "Today" is what the sample is from btw if anyone cares.

actually it's an homage to TROY and there are no samples, the producer got a legit sax player to come in and play it and stuff. Pete Rock got really pissed at this tho.

I liked this but I kind of feel like Lupe was really kind of forcing the political stuff to be forced like, "I'M BACK GUYS AND AS DEEP AS EVER C'MON I KNOW I FUCKED UP BUT PLEASE LIKE ME AGAIN? POLITICS?"

Made me happy - after all the label bullshit surrounding Lasers, this is really good.

Loved Food and Liquor, really enjoyed The Cool. And I kind of like the album name.

I didn't even have to listen to Lazers to say it was bad; all it took was "The Show Goes On" to see what was up.

This is pretty tight though. Loving the beat, and I'm liking the chorus.

the show goes on was actually alright but the rest of lazers was simply awful

not very good, and using the same melody as such a legendary track is an awful idea

people say this often but it's very much true here: this song just makes me want to listen to the original

lyrics are boring too. just bad all around honestly

yeah, people don't seem to get that these tracks will never be memorable because all they'll sound like is an homage, and that's it.

Well the original beat from TROY is sampled from Tom Scott's cover of Jefferson Airplane's "Today", so I assumed they just re-sampled the same shit instead of hiring a new sax player to come in and try to mimic the original. I guess it makes sense from a legal standpoint though.
