Andre Williams: One-Eyed Jack 2012-03-08 by americanohno | 3 Comments | R&B legend Andre Williams has already released one album this year - Hoods and Shades, with Jim White (The Dirty Three), Jim Diamond (The Dirtbombs), and a couple of old Motown players - and on May 15th he'll release his second, Night and Day.
Night and Day, which is being released by Yep Roc Records, is Williams' second collaboration with the Toronto country band The Sadies. Their first collaboration resulted in the pretty badass 1999 album Red Dirt.
You can listen to the first song released off of Night and Day, "One-Eyed Jack", here:

Williams began his career with Fortune Records in the 50s. In the 60s Stevie Wonder, The Five Du-Tones, Ike and Tina Turner, and many other R&B artists scored hits with Williams' songs.
Williams spent much of the 80s plagued by drug addiction and poverty, but beginning with his 1996 album Greasy he scored a comeback and has since become a very important player in Detroit's vibrant roots/blues scene.

Wow, I guess I didn't know a whole lot about Andre Williams. I like the music, because it has a lot
going for it... definitely got a nice guitar chug, and I also like the electric fiddle. (Can't say I
agree with the way Native Americans are depicted though in the song.) Nice post
