Thick as a Brick 2 Announced

2012-02-08 by CynicalComplex | 33 Comments
Ian Anderson has announced that a sequel to Thick as a Brick entitled Thick as a Brick 2: Whatever Happened to Gerald Bostock? through jethrotull.com. It is slated for release on April 2nd.

A concept album like its predecessor, TaaB 2 follows Gerald Bostock, the fictional child prodigy that supposedly wrote the poem that inspired the original Thick as a Brick, and showcases various different paths that his life could have taken. Symbolically, the main theme is how coincidences and direct interventions can change human lives.

The album is being released as a solo effort rather than under Jethro Tull; Anderson has also stated that most concert stops during the 2012 tour will feature the entirety of both Thick as a Brick albums.

Ah, forgot to mention a couple other things:

1) At http://www.stcleve.com/, there's another parody newspaper in the style of TaaB1's album cover.

2) There's a small teaser trailer posted on Youtube, as well: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q7jZMCBEsZM

Not quite sure what to think at this point. The few split seconds in the trailer sound nice, but there's some nagging part of me that keeps saying "Way too after-the-fact; gonna suck."

I'll post another story when Anderson starts streaming samples like he promised to do. Unless one of you ladies or gentlemen beat me to the punch, of course.

It sucks that Martin Barre's not gonna be a part of this. Still pretty stoked for it though.

As TaaB was supposed to be a joke, will this be a joke too? I don't think we need this... Will we find out what happened to his girlfriend too?

I think the best way to look at this is as an Ian Anderson solo project, which is what it is. Hopefully it will rule. I live in hope.
