Vanna announces member changes 2012-02-03 by xfearbefore | 42 Comments |
The popular Boston post-hardcore band has announced the departure of longtime guitarist/vocalist Evan Pharmakis and drummer Chris Campbell on amicable terms.
Statement from Evan Pharmakis (guitarist/vocals):
"I'm sad to say that as of now I will no longer be a part of Vanna. I've decided that due to my current situation and not being able to fully support myself after seven years of hard work, it's time to start taking responsibility for my life, and move on. This band has grown a lot over the years and with growth comes change. When we started Vanna it was because we loved playing music, and once it developed it was this balance of writing what we loved while still creating music that all our fans would enjoy. Mixing business into that equation is a difficult task, and with five completely different personalities it's a hard act to balance. I've been struggling for the last two years trying to make it work for me and my life, and as much as I love it, I have to let it go.
The lyrics I wrote and sang in Vanna were about real life situations I went through and will always mean a lot to me. I hope they continue to help anyone who listens to them, through their life problems and difficult times. I hold no grudges towards the band and hope they hold none against me, and I wish the guys the best of luck with their decision to move on. I also hope that the fans we have won't take this too hard. The most special part of being in this band, for me, was seeing how much it meant to so many people. I pushed through the loneliness, anxiety and difficulty I have of traveling just to be there for everyone our music meant something to.
I love you all, every person with a Vanna tattoo, every person that felt a connection to the music, every person I stayed up late chatting on Facebook with about different problems they were going through. I couldn't possibly explain how much you all have meant to me. If you still want to hear me play music, you can check out my band "wind in sails" and I promise I'll keep writing honest music that I put my all into. Thank you all again so much for everything. The last seven years have been an experience I will never forget. To all my friends around the world, thank you for all your help, love and friendship. It means more than you know. Thank you all again very much. You are the white light, don't forget that."
Statement from Chris Campbell (drummer):
After two full length records, an EP, countless US tours, 3 incredible European tours I will no longer be playing drums in Vanna. I absolutely love playing music, and will continue to play but, it's time for me to move forward with my life. Vanna fans are some of the most die-hard music fans I've ever had the privilege of being involved with. Everything has been for you guys. Thanks to everyone who came to a show, bought a cd, or just hung out. It was rad.

never listening to this band again without evan

Vocalist seems like a really cool guy; drummer seems like an idiot.
|
| |
Yeah I was thinking about seeing them at warped tour but now I'm definitely not.
|
| |
this is sad. vanna is awesome and these two were a huge part of that. i hope they continue to provide the northeast with another 7 years of hard hitting.
|
| |
Never listened to these guys much. Didn't even know they still existed. Guys had some good words though.
|
| |
oh look
vanna left vanna
|
| |
Only like one song from this band, but it's because of the clean vocals so he shall be missed.

DEAD LANGUAGE OF A DYING LADY?

DEAD LANGUAGE FOR A DYING LADY?*
|

Trashmouth is fucking great. Couldn't care less about much else.
|

Oh no, a hardcore band has lost its vocalist. Whatever will we do?
|
| |
Sad news, really liked their debut and the new material showed promise too; a lot of memories associated with this band.
|
| |
"Oh no, a hardcore band has lost its vocalist. Whatever will we do?"
lol
|
| |
looks they need to buy a vowel... and a frontman and a drummer.

I know right, it's not like they all sound the same or anything
|
| |
Yeah I'm pretty sure I'm done with this band unless they pick some really impressive talent for the next record
|
| |
jonny craig joins vanna
|
| |
thats why i was loling
|
| |
idk guys vanna is pretty hardcore
|
| |
wait, if they're not considered hardcore what are they?
|
| |
This is depressing news indeed. Glad I got to see them live when I did.
|

Evan definitely didn't seem like his heart was still in it but he didn't want to disappoint the fans, this seemed like a looong time coming. The solo stuff he's working on is pretty good but its' definitely different from the metalcore stuff he's been playing for the last decade.

"Vocalist seems like a really cool guy; drummer seems like an idiot."
HA, these guys are some of the biggest assholes on the planet, ESPECIALLY the vocalist. Liked these dudes when Chris was the vocalist though.
|
| |
Evan's actually a really nice and good dude if you actually know him.

Based on what? I met these guys at a local show and they were really cool dudes and casual...
And half of these posts are acting like the "vocalist" that left was the main screaming guy.

Hey ksk1, this is Evan..formerly of Vanna. Why do you think everyone, including myself, in vanna are assholes? I can't speak for everyone else. But I've always been nothing but kind and polite to everyone I've met while traveling and playing in vanna. I also knew from the get go that just because I play in a band, didn't make me better or any more special than anyone else and egos are something I make a point of keeping myself seperated from. Anyway, I don't appreciate your attempt at slandering me, especially when you clearly don't really know me. And yea I had differences with the guys, and I'd decided to part ways from the band, but even though we have those differences I wouldn't say they are assholes either.
|
| |
I used to see this band all the time over the years. Then I had an 'altercation' of sorts in Manchester two or so years ago with their tour manager and their new vocalist when they ran the venue I was at.
|
| |
These guys have always been about their fans. I've seen them 4 times and Hung out with them and talked with them every time. They even came to my hometown in the middle of absolutely nowhere, Missouri and played for maybe 25 people and still came back to play for us on 2 other separate occasions. That's dedication to your fans. I'm gonna miss these guys and can't fathom anything they write comparing to what they've already done but I'll definitely continue to listen and wish the best to them all.
|
| |
Yea, it's really me. Honestly eyeforaneye...I'm not surprised. I never got involved with that kind of stuff. ALOT of people are way too wrapped up with being "tough" or "cool" when in actuallity thy aren't either. Sorry if those guys changed how you felt about the band. When I started vanna it was
Something so different, and it just changed too much for me. I had to get out.

Well , if this is actually Evan.. I'd just like to say that I fuckin' loved the band back in the days of The Search Party Never Came EP. After "A New Hope" dropped, my following of you guys kind of tapered off.
|
| |
The Search Party Never Came = favorite release from the band period, love my copy.
|
| |
These guys' earlier stuff was sweet. are they still good?
|
| |
I DONT WANNA SEE YOU FALL APAAAAAAAAART WHEN THEY COME TO GET YOU!
|
| |
thank you guys!!! I like the songs on search party, but the recording always bummed me out. Our producer for that record was an idiot and ruined the recording. I always tried to keep that same kind of style but nick wanted to go in a moshy, hardcore direction, so we constantly worked to mix our styles. I also never got to sing as much as I wanted. But thank you all so much for the support. It means alot
|
| |
I saw them back in the curses-days, so...idk who where the members tbh. It seems sad for the loss anyway.
|
| |
@Evantyler7 why are you on Sputnik if you're the Vanna guy?
|
| |
I think it's pretty cool that he's communicating with us. But yeah Ethan. I'm sure you're beyond familiar with Rocko's. Basically. Some kid who was friends with them hit my friend and their was a fight between those two kids. Me and my other friend went and tried to break it up, but they took it as us trying to pummel this kid. So I got choked by Davey, no harm done, it was actually quite funny and my other friend ended up getting into a fist fight with Ethan.
|
| |
Evan, I shouldn't have generalized the statement so much. It's mostly just Davey I don't like. I shouldn't have blamed you by association. I have no issues with you.
|
| |
I'd definately like to hear some of Evan's solo stuff, does anyone have a link?
