Air reveal new album

French downtempo/chillout group Air have revealed that their next album, due out in early 2012, will be a soundtrack to the 1902 silent film Le Voyage dans la Lune.

Considered to be the first science fiction film ever made, the iconic 16 minute film (translated as A Voyage to the Moon) and directed by Georges Méliès, was also heavily featured in The Smashing Pumpkins music video for 'Tonight, Tonight'.

The project was initially designed to be shown at the Cannes film festival, but upon completion the duo decided to expand the material already written into a full length album. In commenting on the project, the group have said that the album is "more organic" than their previous work. "Everything is played live. We wanted it to sound 'handmade,' 'knocked together,' a bit like Méliès' special effects."

Featuring contributions from Beach House and Au Revoir Simone, Le Voyage dans la Lune will be released in two different versions: a single disc stand-alone edition, and a special edition which will include a restored and colorized version of the film and will be limited to 70,000 copies.

Tracklist:
1. Astronomic Club
2. Seven Stars
3. Retour sur terre
4. Parade
5. Moon Fever
6. Sonic Armada
7. Who Am I Know?
8. Décollage
9. Cosmic Trip
10. Homme lune
11. Lava

Le Voyage Dans la Lune will be released in February 2012
