Lifelover Guitarist Dies

2011-09-13 by Kyle Ward EMERITUS | 57 Comments
Jonas Bergqvist, guitarist and songwriter of the Swedish black metal band Lifelover, died on
the evening of September 9th. Prophecy Productions, the band's label, released the following
statement:

Quote:
To us, Jonas wasn’t just a very creative artist, but also a pleasant and enthusiastic
person. It is for certain that we won’t be the only ones missing his character, his passion,
and his unique musical language.
In the face of this tragic loss, we would very much like to extend our heartfelt condolence
towards Jonas’ family, his friends, and the remaining musicians of Lifelover.

Guess he didn't... love... life? Anymore?

I'm sure he was a great guy and will be sorely missed. Does Lifelover sound anything like Alcest?

I'm curious what was the cause of death (it's still not established). They are a Depressive Black Metal act... Their latest album is rated 2.7, when the previous four range from 4.2 to 4.5. Could it make him to commit suicide?

I'm gonna check out their works.

R.I.P.

Band =/= private life.
"Black Metal bands seem to have quite a few suicides"
Not really. Dude from Nyktalgia (or Sterbend, I forgot) fell of a bridge while being drunk.

I've read elsewhere that he died in his sleep and drugs don't look to be a factor.

Sad to hear it. It may sound like a cliche or stereotype but you honestly don't get into genres like black metal unless you've got some serious personal issues and stuff going on, maybe that you might not even know about yet. Neuroses seem to go hand in hand with punk rock and metal and all of it's many offshoots and subgenres, because you've got to have some kind of anger, pain, passion, emotion, love, or something inside of you that drives you to create music as bombastic and fast as black metal or punk rock, and it's truly a damn shame that he's gone. I don't even know the dude or his music at all, but I can relate.

Largely you're right, especially for musicians that actually play in the bands.

"Largely you're right, especially for musicians that actually play in the bands."
That's generally musicians. You just gotta look at the shit that's going on with all the popular ones. Very similar to actors. (Charlie Sheen, Robert Downey Jr., Russell Crowe..)
You can't really pinpoint that. There's a shitload of people in "loud as hell" bands just to blow off steam, use it to compensate negative emotions. Which doesn't necessarily mean they have psychological issues or anything in that sense. Or people in Germany just became way too harmless and friendly and shit.
