Polaris Music Prize Nominees

2011-07-07 by DaveyBoy EMERITUS | 12 Comments
The nominees for this year's Polaris Music Prize have been announced. The award which is presented to the best full-length Canadian release - based on artistic merit - has previously been won by the likes of Final Fantasy, Caribou and Fucked Up.

If 2010 is anything to go by, then the winner - which will be presented on September 6 - could come from any of the 10 nominees. Last year's award was won by Karkwa, over more fancied rivals Caribou, Broken Social Scene, Owen Pallett, The Besnard Lakes & Tegan and Sara.

The 2011 nominees are as follows:

Arcade Fire - The Suburbs
Austra – Feel It Break
Braids – Native Speaker
Colin Stetson – New History Warfare Vol. 2: Judges
Destroyer – Kaputt
Galaxie – Tigre et diesel
Hey Rosetta – Seeds
Ron Sexsmith – Long Player Late Bloomer
Timber Timbre – Creep On Creepin’ On
The Weeknd – House Of Balloons

Arcade Fire should win this.

Wouldn't mind if Colin Stetson, Destroyer or The Weeknd do.

Pretty much agree with Doubt, even though I think Arcade Fire will win this, but not should

I've not heard Galaxie, Ron Sexsmith or Timbre Timbre, but Arcade Fire is comfortably the best of the rest.

Definitely Arcade Fire taking this. Little bit bummed that Fucked Up isn't part of the 10 though.

It'd be awesome if Kaputt won, but The Suburbs is almost guaranteed.

Everyone presuming Arcade Fire to win is sort of why I mentioned what happened last year. I'm not so sure myself... Although the fact AF have yet to win it may also play a part.

I'd say arcade fire won't win they are more impressed by new/ original bands than good bands who make it.
